I NEED help with a decision. I know a guy who is willing to lease me his 26' straight truck. He would take care of maintainance, repairs and plates. All for $600 a week. I just have to supply the fuel and insurance (depending on who is sign on with)
If I ran 5-10 days, would I make enough around 1.5 -2K and also clear the lease amount????? Thanks ......

I don't know why I didn't see this before today but anyway, that's $2600 per month ($600*52/12). That's more than the monthly payment on a brand new expediter truck with 96" sleeper and all the bells and whistles. Either that owner is completely out of touch with reality or far more likely is a complete crook.

This may seem rather harsh, and perhaps it is, but it's for your own good as well as the good of anyone else who reads this. I'm not writing this to beat you up but to educate you and others. You have not done nearly enough research in these forums or you would know that the most common arrangement is a 60/40 split with the 60% side paying fuel and getting 100% of the fsc (fuel surcharge) paid by the carrier on the job. Keep studying the forums and asking questions and don't have anything to do with that particular owner.

For 600 a week, there is no way that you will be able to make a living,
lets say you do 4 runs a week, his straight truck will probably get only 8-10 miles per gallon, at an average price of 260 per gallon, and your truck will take approx 100-150 depending on the fuel tanks, so figure 2 75 gal tanks, and you fill up every other load, your talking 400 in fuel only in one week, plus what insurance, if its Occupational that he or you can pay for, but if its truck liability NO WAY that is his responsibility not yours.

You should be getting 60% if you paying for fuel and insurance, of the load of what he gets not a flat amount, this owner is out to screw you one way or another. Lets give you an example,

Average Rate for a Straight truck is $1.07 per mile loaded depending on company it was at one time 62% of that to the owner, Thats $.66 cents per mile to the truck, then you get 60% of that is roughly .40 cents a mile to you.

You get a 500 mile run, x. 66 to the owner = $ 528.00
Your Share is 60% of that $ 316.80 on 1 load, minus fuel

Lets say you get 3 runs like that, that $ 950. in your pocket for the week, minus fuel tolls, and your occupational insurance. which is a lot better than $600 """"Right"""". At that rate 600 per week ain';t worth the paper its written on, he wants to make the money and you will go bankrupt in no time, supporting his profit, AINT NO WAY I WOULD TAKE IT.

as was just stated,600 bucks a week is out of the question.
the going rate for drivers is a 60/40 split, drivers getting 60% and then drivers pay for the fuel, and also get the fuel surcharge,in the deal the guy made you,you didnt mention fsc.in expedite, the best advantage to earning potential,is running with your spouce, teams do much better than singles, and you dont have to pay your spouce, lol, well you sort of do,but its in the same house hold.
good luck to you, check the want ads in eo,there are many owners looking for drivers, just check with there other drivers, how they are doing, but remember 1 thing, those of us that make a great living doing this, work the systems to get-r-done,and it does take time to figure this system out.

WOW..600 a week!?!?! Does that even include the weeks your off at home?!? AND you still have to pay for fuel?!?! NO WAY!?! My hubby and I drive for someone and we get over a thousand a week...easy (most times more) we don't pay for ANYTHING! No fuel, tolls, maintance, plates, etc. Are you running a team or solo? If you are a solo RUN now!

Spoke with a new expediter (previously a tt driver with his wife) at Petro in North Las Vegas today he was driving a 2006 or 2007 Hino 22’ box, single axle, 96†sleeper and barn doors for fleet owner. They have 90 day time frame to decide if they want to buy truck with fleet owner holding paper at $2200 a month payment plus 20% of gross minus truck payment. Truck has extended warranty and they will be responsible for all maintenance, repairs and tolls. Owner will cover insurances and permits. Their credit rating is very low so they can’t get bank financing so they feel this is only way they can get their own truck.
I mentioned he may want to read posts on EO to clear some issues and give them a better picture of possible complications they may face.

I am grateful I listened to folks on EO before I made decision to buy a used truck that was well within my price range even if business is slow.

Its scary seeing folks getting behind 8 ball with large truck payment plus 20% bonus going back to owner.

Wow...2200 a month (thats crazy)! I would save...save...save...then buy an older used truck...with enough money down, poor credit shouldn't matter. Then pay off the truck, be able to save money super fast, then have a trade-in + money down for that nice truck. Doing it this way might even help that credit problem?

Like others suggested be a driver save up and negotiate a better deal down the road

During the 90 day trial period they are getting 60/40 with 100% FSC
and he did mention they may continue that avenue instead of buying.

He wasn't at all receptive to suggestions seemed set in his mind which way they were going to go.
