My broker blames my unwillingness to go to Canada for why I cant find a load for a day or 2. Im hoping its just the slow time of year, I've had enough of Canada. Everybody else slow as well?

Hey Driver628,

I beleive it is business as usual for this time of year, so some weeks may vary (others will chime in on this). But if going to Canada will not be a burden and rate is ok, I may go just to keep it moving.

I agree, I have been taking more Canada loads then usual because of being slow. It just seems like everyone I do is a nightmare. The last one I did, the box to be shipped was out side in an overnight box when I went for pick up. No customs info, nothing. Building was closed coudnt get in, no fax machine, and so on. After all that mess I was so upset I sent all my PARS and whatnot back in a trip pak with a note that I wouldnt be needing it again. :)

Doesn't it make sense to you that if you went to Canada you would have more work. Now that may not be the reason you are sitting a day or two, but it seems to me that your broker makes sense. I'm not fond of some of the pitfalls of border crossing, but when I want work .....

Did you take it?
NO INFORMATION????????
I hope you contacted your broker or dispatcher to say:
"
I cannot take that shipment without proper Customs documentation.
End of story."

Let them sort out that crap; not you the driver.
That is a nightmare for sure but one that is avoidable.
Nerver take a cross border shipment unless the paperwork is complete or the responsible person at the shipper tells you that the customs issues are already addressed at the border. If that is the case they should provide you with a contact at the broker's office in case of problems.

Why does everyone hate Canada!!!! As long as your paperwork is in order, you will not have an issue. I like driving there better than here, better roads, drivers that know how to drive, higher speed limts, some good food in Toronto, etc. I see no downside to going there except that you might be out of a cell phone for a few days.

Magic I don't have a problem going to Canada if the money is right,
The problem we encounter is coming back to the states!
Heaven forbid they want to see receipts or a declaration for everything in my truck!!!
I have 2 laptops 2k in camera equipment a flat screen tv, home theater etc you get the picture "we live here" and joe custom is having a bad day....
Why subject ourselves to that type of aggravation??

Never had to deal with brokers before. Why are they so frowned upon ? Thought that all of Landstar used brokers - are they the same as the other brokers? Was thinking of maybe driving for them.

jeffman: brokers are no problem, provided they do their job, and you do yours. Your job entails faxing the information they need to do their job, which is clearing the freight. It's never smart to leave the shipper before calling the broker to make sure that they got the fax, all necessary information is on the papers, and the load is or will be cleared.

Now I see - but it does get confusing, referring to both freight & customs brokers in the same thread, without specifying which broker 'everyone hates'...

Basically they (brokers) do the same thing, take money.

No, it is not slow for everyone, I am busy.

actually getting paid rather well (by my standards) sitting at the J waiting for my plane arrive so I can take it 10 miles. This is another nightmare run and I will end up in Chicago for the weekend shopping.

It would appear the torch has been passed. You'll do just fine to fill the temporary vacancy, Greg. Congratulations!:+ ;)
