IRS as enforcer of healthcare reform

Watching a news report today on Fox News, it appears the Democrats will use the Internal Revenue Service as the chief enforcer and bill collector against noncompliant citizens who choose not to buy federally mandated health insurance. The IRS will use broad discretionary powers to assess and collect fines and penalties.

When people say there are no differences between the two major parties, they couldn't be more wrong on this particular issue. The liberals in Congress have no problem crafting legislation behind closed doors, then using the IRS as its bully to shakedown the taxpayers under fear of incarceration. The fines will start out small, but will surely grow over time as Congress sees this revenue stream to be a cash cow.

Never forget which party forced this Socialist terror down our throats. It is nearly impossible to kill a government bureaucracy once it takes root. Lets hope a future Congress can repeal this monstrosity.

Let us not forget the privacy issues here. The IRS having access to your medical records and insures your tax information. The IRS is already very much like a "Brown Shirt" bunch, can you imagine them with even more power? Like the power of controlling your health care? And I bet the "Sheeple" will still try to defend this bill and it's supporters.

Oh how quickly we forget ....

"Nixon’s Enemies List is the informal name of what started as a list of President of the United States Richard Nixon’s major political opponents compiled by Charles Colson, written by George T. Bell (assistant to Colson, special counsel to the White House), and sent in memorandum form to John Dean on September 9, 1971. The list was part of a campaign officially known as “Opponents List” and “Political Enemies Project.” The official purpose, as described by the White House Counsel’s Office, was to “screw” Nixon’s political enemies, by means of tax audits from the Internal Revenue Service, and by manipulating “grant availability, federal contracts, litigation, prosecution, etc.”"

In a memorandum from John Dean to Lawrence Higby (August 16, 1971), Dean explained the purpose of the list succinctly:

"This memorandum addresses the matter of how we can maximize the fact of our incumbency in dealing with persons known to be active in their opposition to our Administration; stated a bit more bluntly—how we can use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies."
(from Wikipedia)

There are, of course, differences: one is the illegal targeting of political enemies for suppression by mechanisms of the state, the other is the attempted enslavement of a nation.

Both of course, were, or are, criminal.

Never forget which party forced this Socialist terror down our throats.
Absolutely good advice - just don't let your own self-described political affiliation delude you into thinking that your cohorts in the body politic don't have blood on their hands as well.

And all this of course is pure supposition since the bill has not passed and things are changing every day....It appears the government option is dead and or dying....soooo.....

What do you think of the IRS being involved with health care? Do you like that idea?
Heheheh ... too funny ......

If you will recall, when there were discussions on here previously, some time back, regarding the income tax and IRS, I was arguing that the IRS should be abolished ..... as Rep. Bill Archer (TX) so famously put it:

"....... pull the current income tax code out by its roots and throw it away so it can never grow back,''

Hopefully such sentiments might make it abundantly plain which way I would be leaning ...

BTW, I believe that greg334 argued more or less that "Oh no, we can't do that - it would be horrible !"

Perhaps you might want to ask him what he thinks of the IRS being involved in such things .....

I want to go on public record on any monitored internet website or user group that the IRS is our friend. Their jobs are valuable to our country and I have nothing negative to say about any of them and I hope they have a Happy New Year!

Well, I think that they suck and am not afraid to say it aloud. After all, the very worst thing they can do is kill me and they can only do that once!!

OVM... you underestimate the Democrats' zeal to push this socialist agenda. President Obama's sigature will be on this legislation before he gives his first State of the Union address in about 10 days from now. Government takeover of healthcare is his gift to America. The countdown is on. The Democrats have placed all their prestige and political capital on the line. They have the numbers... who's gonna stop them?

A heavy mortar team? Other than that, nothing. Now you get a pretty good idea how Hitler took over Germany.

RLENT... it is true enough the GOP is often portrayed as a war party. I vote GOP because they profess to be the more conservative of the two major parties. Usually, they are more conservative... especially on issues important to social conservatives such as myself. The crux of the matter being that while the GOP often rallies around a president to go to war against enemies abroad, the Democrats make war against their own citizens through radical economic and social policy.

I am firmly convinced Obama does not love our country nor her people. He is hostile to our customs and traditions... more so than any elected politician I have ever seen. Obama will need to push amnesty through before the November elections. It's going to be an interesting Spring and Summer.

The GOP might be portrayed as a war party, but just as with this war, the Dumb-O-Crats got us into this one, just as they did in the Cold War, WWII etc. Funny how things get cast over the years. Weakness advances war far more that staying strong does. Just the way it is. The Dumb-O-Crats believe in a weak military and we keep getting stuck with their wars.

Layout... when I stated the GOP is often portrayed as a war party, I was not saying the portrayal is accurate. Our nation has gone to war many times under both parties. I actually like Harry "A-Bomb" Truman. He was a realist.

Truman could have handled the beginning of the Cold War better and that might have saved 25 millions lives or so and saved us an untold amount of money. He backed down and allowed the Soviets to get a grip on Eastern Europe. Had he acted before they consolidated their power we might have avoided that 50 year war. Just how I see it.

What was the last war that the ReBumLiCans got us into? Just wondering which one you think it was. (REAL wars, not Grenada size stuff)

Maybe you recall the War of Northern Aggression, 1861-1865.
I suspect many believe George W. Bush is fully accountable for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan...although he went to Congress and got a legitimate vote for war. Then, there's Bush the Elder and his adventures in the Middle East. A case could be made that their predecessors left us in such a precarious situation that war became inevitable. Who knows... it can be argued round or square.

I believe too that the Civil War was the last big war that the ReBumLiCans were solely responsible. The rest belong to the Dumb-O-Crats. I put the Middle East mess squarely on Carter. We have been fighting there ever since. It just cools off and flairs up but has never ended.

No one since Carter has done all that much to end it though, reguardles of party.
