Indiana Governor proposes new toll road

"Our" governor has decided to add a 75-mile tollway bypass of Marion County. Basically thinking that truckers will be more interested in running a toll road around the capital city. Rather than taking the free interstate around Indianapolis. He wants to use the money he got for selling I80.

Just thought I'd share this with you all here's the whole story:

Living here in this state we call Indiana, soon to be referred to as IN-DE-ANIS, this is part of this idiot's big plan to move us into the lead of economic development in the nation.

OK.

Well, first, when we take more away from every truck that passes through our state, (taxes, tolls, etc) than almost every state in the nation, this is not a solid economic development program.

Hindering the transportation of products and goods through a state and/or into a state is not a positive move - no matter how you look at this.

Yes, this will provide an easier method to move around Indy to the southern part of the state - but sticky it to the trucking industry will not be a wise move.

Man, if I could drive around this whole state somehow, without touching a single part of highway I sure would!

Also living in the "great" state of Indiana, All I can say is next time we vote, we better UNITE and say "DITCH MITCH"...

If you live in Indiana, feel free to let Mitch know how you feel. The nice thing is that there is a way around every road in Indiana...LOL

I agree and I will vote against his sorry hindend, next time around. Watching this story on the news last night alot of people were against it. But I'm sure once again that he won't care and he will do whatever he wants regardless of what "we" want. Too many people will loose their land just because 'our' governor wants to try to bring in money that he lost by selling I80. As I'm sure they won't be given a choice as to whether or not they want to give it up.

In the poll, 51% voted sounds interesting. Who'd have thought the majority would be idiots.

One more reason not to buy fuel in Indiana.

Is the problem not about financing a new road?
Here in Ontario; "electronic toll road" Highway 407 was built as a PPP
Public, Private, Partnership. Private interests will put up money to build roads; but want to be repaid quickly. That was the reason for it being tolled.

Don't be so hard on (not) my man Mitch. He is the reason I am an Expediter. He and his buds thought we needed a new domed stadium, so they voted for a new stadium for the millionaire athletes to play in, cut the education budget, my university cut my program budget, and said "hit the road, Prof", and here I am. The proposed toll road also looks like it will be going in right in my back yard.

theoldprof I know what you mean. The propsed bypass to bypass 31 is literally right in my backyard as well. The on/off ramp looks as though it will land right on 1/2 of my house. Guess I will be looking to move in the next year or so. This time I will move my hindend FURTHER out into the country.

Wasn't the original intent of toll roads to eliminate the tolls, or reduce them to a level sufficient for maintenance needs, once the road was paid for? Has this ever actually happened?
Toll roads are such a great method of getting more money from people, without raising taxes, that I think we're going to see a lot more of them, everywhere.

I live here in Hoosier Land as well. I don't agree with everything Gov. Daniels has done but I give him credit for actually doing something. As for the new toll road around Indy I would gladly pay to bypass that I-69 Fishers mess especially if it means the new I-69 from Indy to Evansville (which is not needed but is coming none the less) will remain toll-free.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the reason they sold the Indiana Turnpike was so they'd have money to complete I-69? Why would they sell a money maker to build a free road?

The only state I am aware of that has actually paid off a toll road and then dropped the tolls is Kentucky. Just this month they paid off the final two toll roads The Natcher (Bowling Green to Owensboro) and The Audubon (Owensboro to Henderson) and have discontinued the tolls and are in the process of removing the toll booths. They have had several toll roads since the 70's and have all been paid off and become toll free. A true breath of fresh air in this society.
