Very good article. It's amazing how many ppl are willingly ignorant to what's going on.

The solution is simple... Constitutional amendment giving you the choice between government assistance and the right to vote. You can't be for both and have an honest stake in the country. This is a republic, not a democracy.

Very good article...I once asked the very same question in this forum....

What is it going to take the average American to wake up?

Nothing will wake them up. Just look how many in here not only are willing to go along with this but are happy to see it happen. Those same people riducule anyone who stands up to these people. They call us, old fogies, or reactionaires or relics. Relics is my favorite. They are more than willing to give up freedom for empty promises. Those same people just assume that what they are told by Obama and Co. is right and make NO effort what so ever to research things. an example would be just how much "free" health care costs and what the quality of that "free" health care is likely to be. They forgot the old saying "there is no such thing as a free lunch". They are very happy to just line up with thier hands out. Socialist autotrons. Layoutshooter

Quite right that universal healthcare costs a lot. The cdn govt and the provinces spend billions on healthcare every year. It is over 25% of the provincial budget alone. While I like some of the benefits of having a health plan that everyone pays into (well most everyone) there are of course some things lacking. The system in the US of pay for what coverage you want works well but as you're aware has been subject to large increases over the last decade or so. The US system does work better for getting into the mri and other such expensive procedures but the bills from the hospital even with insurance can be crippling to a family, especially in these economic times.

There are pros and cons to both systems. Either way they are expensive and the NZ idea seems to have struck a sort of compromise with the govt picking up most of the tab. They have a govt healthcare system that utilizes user fees. It used to be $5 minimum user fee to visit your doctor and the govt paid the rest for the visit. This actually had the effect of reducing wasted visits to the emergency rooms and doctors offices for a cold or such.

There are quite a few countries with a high degree of social networks for the citizens and of course the high taxation that goes along with it. But ask the citizens if they'd change it and most would not. In fact in Norway they voted in a govt a few times that actually increased taxes.

Yup Obama seems to be headed into the world of govt run programs and yes it is a form of socialism. But before you think it is super bad you have to ask why he wants to do this. There are some many poor in the US that can not afford healthcare and such that it makes some sense to consider the idea of universal healthcare. You already have unemployment insc, welfare and forms of govt medical insc so you're part way there. Welfare covers more than those who are incapable of working so it already is govt subsidies to the poor. What Obama seems headed for is an enlargement of govt services available to all citizens but especially the poor.

I want no part of it, I lived in England and had to use thier system. It sucked. It was not much better than 3rd world medicine. I refuse to pay for it. Layoutshooter
