well the price would drop just like if we invaded Canada for their oil, we can see $70 a barrel again.
when you think of it...we (the modern world) haven't really evolved that far IF at all.....still going to war and invading for goods that the more powerful country doesn't have...still neandrathal thinking...

Why do you think the Japenese were building an empire before WW 2? The mainland needed resources it didn't have.

Somebody was talking about Civil War. I think it is possible, but I don't think it will be like the first one. I don't think there are enough people to seperate to try to get something better going. Although I don't agree with everything the CSA was about alot of it I do. Like state's rights. It's like Hank Jr sang "If the South woulda won we wouldv'e had it made". I know one thing it would be better than this mess we have now.

Resources were not the real issue, it was power and colonization of Asia - something like their form of Manifest Destiny. They called it "eight corners of the world under one roof".
They were building an empire back when they had the first Sino-Japanese war in 1895. But the action they first took was a takeover Manchuria in 1931, reinstalling the last emperor of China as a puppet of Japan and then in 1937 they attacked China, calling it the "Holy War".
The reason they attacked us, the US was because they felt that they could take us on, destroy our navy and have us capitulate to the point they could demand a 21 point treaty with us like they did with China in 1915. They felt that our embargo of oil (and rubber) and scrap was not right and they pulled us into the war along with the Dutch and English but they could have used the oil fields from Manchuria. The scrap embargo was not a real embargo, it had a clear start date and the scrap dealers here were just shoving everything they could onto the ships going to Japan to make as much as they could before the start of the embargo and after that they sold scrap to South America who sent it to Japan.
The guy who came up with the plan, Admiral Yamamoto, used a book published in the 20's that described in detail the attack of Hawaii from the north. He also knew that unless he destroyed the entire fleet, especially the aircraft carriers, that all this will do is resolve the American people to seek revenge.
The south was right at the on set of the civil war. It was fought over states rights. In the movie Gettysburg Gen. Longstreet said that the south should have freed the slaves and then fired on Ft Sumpter. They would have won then. I don't know if Longstreet really said that or some one else did, if anyone, but he was right. Layoutshooter

I really wonder if the average southern farmer or businessman cared about slavery because I remember some old man telling me his father lived better as a slave than most of the farmers around the plantation.
I think that if we look at who was supporting slavery, the rich plantation owners, and compare them to todays rich democrats in congress, we may see a serious connection to the two.

Pelosi and Reid want the prices to stay high so the public will stay up in arms and hopefully blame the Republicans for their problems. I noticed a quote from Pelosi yesterday saying Bush has been a "total failure" at everything; this coming from the most incompetent House Speaker with the lowest approval rating (9% - 14% depending on which poll you read) ever recorded. Hopefully, if she and Reid continue to stonewall the drilling issue they will be voted out of office. Also, if they continue to obstruct the drilling legislation there might actually be a good case to impeach them just as the topic of this thread suggests. Wouldn't that be a switch?
There is enough evidence that drilling would be good for the countrys future.....to hold it up "just because" could be construed as "treasonable" The fact they are not representing the best interests of the American people, the job they were elected to do, could be grounds for impeachment.
Do ya think she will do some flip, flopping???? or spin it into a Democrat idea??
Personally I don't care who takes the credit as long as the drilling starts!

Back in 30's, Hitler blamed the Jews for the problems Germany faced, high unemployment, high inflation, lost national pride and this opened up the door for his 'reforms' but in fact he knew that all these problems were more than something that was not caused by the Jews and didn't care - it shifted power to him and his party.
The exact same thing is happening with the congress and Obama. They are creating a situation by blaming the republicans at the same time standing in the way of using natural resources to gain the power they feel they deserve. Read the responses to ALGORE's rather stupid remarks that oil is the national crisis, its very existence is the reason we are at risk on a national scale. He offers no real solution other than we have to be 100% on solar/wind and forget nuke power. The dems are using this to tell the people that Bush has set us on a path of utter destruction.
The people are falling for it all, thats the really sad thing.
It is like the stimulus package, the first one was needed, it worked, the second one... well we borrowed the money from China to pay for it and the money went to foreign oil and we the tax payers are holding the note for the interest on the checks we got at the same time including people who didn't put into the system in the first place (the fairness factor) and now the democrats have jumped on the bandwagon to say another one is needed but they want to take it farther.
No matter what is happening, the people have to make the changes, not Obama. The dems are using the same tactics to get him elected that Hitler used in the 30's.
