A tanker exploded on I-75 under the 9 mile bridge this evening. My wife says the bridge over I-75 colllapsed. Big news day for Hazel Park, A house exploded on my street this morning and I was awaken with a call from a relative wanting to make sure it wasn't ours. Although there was some serious injurys, I guess no one died in the house explosion, but sadly early reports say 2 are dead in the Tanker Explosion.

Avoid I-75 and 9 mile for a few days.

BREAKING NEWS: Tanker Explosion Shuts Down I-75

POSTED: Wednesday, July 15, 2009
UPDATED: 9:35 pm EDT July 15, 2009

Michigan State Police have shut down I-75 in both directions at 9 Mile Road in Ferndale due to a tanker explosion and massive fire. Thick black smoke can be seen for miles away.

The 9 Mile Road overpass bridge over southbound I-75 has collapsed, and the bridge over northbound I-75 is also in danger of collapse.

The tanker is reported to have been carrying around 9,000gallons of a mixture of gasoline and diesel fuel when colliding with another semi-truck.

Stay with Local 4 News for live coverage from the scene.

Mile Marker 60.

If you're coming north Ya have until exit 59 to get off a 8 Mile Road. Obviously you're pushing it as I've got to believe traffic will be bottlenecked by that time.

If you're heading Southbound ya can go to 696 & I'd think traffic would flow just fine.

I heard no one was really hurt, there were three people taken to the hospital and quickly released.

The tanker was hit by the car, which was in the left lane and lost control hitting the tanker. The tanker tractor 'disconnected' from the trailer and moved out of the way of the tanker which rolled over. There was a third truck that was behind the tanker and he stopped under the bridge and ran the h*ll out of there. The bridge collapsed on that truck.

The driver of the car that caused it will be charged tomorrow.

The entire freeway will be closed for a while, they will have to tear down the bridge and replace it. The road surface will have to be repaired and knowing hazeltucky, there are people who are calling sam right now to see if they can get money from this.

IF you want to know how to get around, read this;

If you are on North bound I-75, take 6 mile road exit and turn left off the exit ramp. Then go to the Woodward and follow that up to 696. Go east on 696 to 75 and back north (remember to watch which lane you are in, the far right goes south and the near right goes north when you appraoch the exit - a lot of accidents there too). This is the easiest to follow.

If you are going south bound I-75 you can do the same thing but you can also get off at 14 mile road EAST, take that to Dequindre, turning right, and then that to Eight mile road.
