The gun charges were originally made along with the sweetheart deal that included the tax charges, but the judge blew that up. Also, illegal guns are often discovered during investigations of other crimes.
That's absolutely not the case. The libs on MSNBC may promote that notion, but "most Republicans" would only like to see background checks more highly scrutinized and the existing laws enforced. If they were, their would be a lot less criminals on the streets and a much lower rate of violent gun crimes.
My thought is they were trying to get more evidence against him to charge him with more crimes. But when the plea deal blew up, they knew that anything they got from the laptop and anything else that was discovered because of the laptop could not be used in court, the gun charge was the only thing left. Like I said before, that judge did him a favor in blowing up the plea deal.
