A 48 year old guy, Who Joined the Family Business after high schooL. Driving Big Trucks, and after the Death of the owner, Didn't have a clue on how to run a Trucking Company, and downsized to a cargo van in Expediting. But Managed to Put 4 sons thru college and paid for a house.

Did you notice what is going on in this thread? Over 35 expediters (solo or teams) are described, but not one of them is in the business for the same reasons any other one is.

As expediters, we have in common the work of transporting expedite and/or critical-shipment freight. As human beings, we are unique in the reasons we get into the business and the ways we run our businesses.

There is no right reason to get into the business. There is no right way to run your business. The only reasons and ways that are right, are the one's that make sense to you.

Profitability is important, since unless you are independently wealthy, you must make money to stay in business. But profitability and income goals vary individually, as much as the reasons people stated above vary.

Some people are money driven. Others are activity driven. Some don't really know for sure but they do well enough to stay in business.

It's all good.
