I have been reading alot of post on here, i would like to do this type of work because i love to travel. But everywhere i look i always see (experience required), how do you get the experience if no one will give you a chance? I am a 40yr old male with a clean driving record. Would someone please help me or guide me in the right direction? I live in Marion, Ar i see alot of expeditor's coming through this area. You can email me at [email protected] in advance thank you for any help or advice or info you can give.

Ah, that classic Catch 22, faced by every teenager who needs a job.....best advice is to look for a smaller carrier, as they're more likely to be flexible about requirements. If you haven't got a CDL, you'll need to get that first, of course, and if you research the archives here, you'll find lots of tips on how to do it without paying an arm & a leg. Best of luck!

have you driven a straight truck? school bus? how did you get your b license? or are you looking for under cdl?

i had 2 years in a school bus and anne m at bolt found me an owner who needed a driver. we clicked and i drove for him until he sold the truck. like cheri says find a smaller company. bolt would be a good small company. ask for anne m and say i said hello.

If you have the lic for a straight truck (or if not) and can't get into expedite due to experience or even otr compnaies, maybe try a local sameday/rush delivery outfit. many do not require the same 2 year experience and they might be more willing to give you a try. The sameday stuff will definitely give you an idea of expediting as the loads are on demand and have to be delivered right away. They may not go across the country, but you'll get the idea of some of the basics. If they have out of town runs then you'll have even more of an idea of what we experience wthout of course the layover (unless you have to due to hours limits). But you'll see the fuel, loading, timing and a host of other things we all go through. From this you'll be able to determine if expediting is possibly for you. Look around as see what's available and don't be too discouraged if this is what you really want to do.
