On the news today management issued a dead line for workers to return to work by 5 pm today or they will shut down all operations and put the assets up for sale which means they don't have to have a buyer for the whole company. They will sell of what ever piece some one wants to buy

Good for them. That's what Peterbilt did with their Madison, TN plant after having continual union problems there over the years. The last time the UAW went on strike there, parent company Paccar closed the plant and moved production to Denton, TX - end of story.

AP news because workers refuse to go back to work the company will close down all plants and go out of business. Just a thought but maybe the stupid union should buy the company or start a new one if their so smart on running a company instead of running them into the ground

Sitting at the coffee bar in the TA this morning I heard something on the news about being Liquidated or could be by the end of the day?? I couldn't totally hear the news story.

What union works there to protect the jobs or should I say did work?

Hostess Brands, baker of iconic Twinkies cakes, said Friday it asked a court's permission to shut down the entire company after a strike crippled its operations.

The move shuts down one of the nation's oldest and largest producers of baked goods. Founded in 1930, it produces such well-known brands, aside from Twinkies, as Ding-Dongs, Ho Ho's, Sno Balls and Donettes, not to mention Wonder bread, which the company says is the best-selling white bread in the United States.

In a statement, Hostess said its bakery operations have been suspended at all plants and that it would lay off most of its 18,500 workers to focus on selling its assets. It said it has filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to close its business and sell its assets, including 33 bakeries and 565 distribution centers.

The company said it would continue to deliver products and its stores would remain open for several days to sell already-baked products.
"The Board of Directors authorized the wind down of Hostess Brands to preserve and maximize the value of the estate after one of the company's largest unions, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM), initiated a nationwide strike that crippled the company's ability to produce and deliver products at multiple facilities," Hostess said in the statement.

On Nov. 12, Hostess permanently closed three plants because of the strike. Two days later, the company announced that it would be forced to liquidate if enough workers did not return to restore normal operations by 5 p.m. ET Thursday.
"We deeply regret the necessity of today's decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike," said Gregory F. Rayburn, chief executive officer.

The BCTGM was not immediately available to comment.

Just stopped by local grocery store and picked a box of twinkles to put in freezer. You never know how much some crazy person will pay for it in a few years.....

The workers won? They don't have jobs anymore. If they call that winning, I'll stick to losing.
No, the workers didn't win. The text on the link has been truncated. Instead of

"Hostess Closing Bakeries as Workers Won",

the full headline is

"Hostess Closing Bakeries as Workers Won’t Cross Lines"

In all fairness to the postal workers, they aren't the problem, it's the unrealistic and impossible demands that Congress has placed onto the Postal Service that's the problem.

Union worker on the radio this morning said yes the union won and they will go work for another company now. If I own a company and some one that helped force a company out of business applies for job I would tell him to go to hell

Some are part of the problem. I know a couple people who work in the main hub at indy. Not carriers, the stuff those guys pull to force overtime they should be fired.

Looks like a little bit of rodeo on both sides of the table....Hostess has been in trouble for many years...Now the executives take healthy bonus's and perks to drain what is left then go bankrupt.....

Ever had a deep-fried Twinkie? It's awesome. It's basically artery spackle, but it's still awesome. :D
