Horrific crash I-65 Indiana 95 MM

The story says the Fed driver hit a truck tire and wheel lying in the middle of the road causing him to lose control.

How many times have you seen spare's held onto a trailer or against someone's bunk with a couple of bungee cords?

It's amazing what the consequences of our actions or inactions can lead to sometimes, and how often we never think twice about it.

It was still dark when this happened this morning, so I am sure the Fed driver couldn't see the tire/wheel until it was too late if at all. The poor folks in the other vehicles had absolutely no chance as the unlit pup trailer caroused across the median into their vehicles.
Extra sad as it involved a paramedic from one of our neighboring departments where I work full-time.

It's sad that this happened. I hope they don't charge the driver with anything. FedEx Freight is going to have a nice payout on this sorry to say.

I went by this accident seen (it was in the north bound lanes) south bound at about 4:30 pm yesterdat on my way to nashville. While it was 'kind of" cleaned up, it still looked terrible and the traffic was down to 1 lane. The accident was at abiut the 76 milepost and the traffic at that time was backed up to the 71 and filling up fast.

What was left of that TT was nothing, and you couln't tell if it was a 53 ft'er or 2 pups or 1 pup, wheels, suspension and everything was either burnt up or melted.

May God be with those families

Actually the trailers faired pretty well. As you can see in the pictures in the link provided, the back "pup" came unhooked after hitting a spare tire/wheel assembly that was lying in the middle of the road. The four wheelers involved were mangled badly but no fire was involved.

Reminds me of 1 night on I-696 there was a mattress in the left and half of the left center lane. It was raining and it was just coming out of a curve, people were swearving like crazy. I called 911 and was chastised by the operator for tieing up the emergency line. I used alot of profanities after that, something like get someone the "f" out there before someone gets killed you stupid "B". Then I said my name and address, if you have a problem with that send the police to my house. I never heard anything about it.

I always call 911 and then just ask for the Highway Patrol. I've never had a rude operator before and I've called a lot of stuff in.

the accident happened in the early am, i went by at about 4:30 pm. The 4 wheelers were gone, but wat was left of the cab and one of the pups was still there. That pup was nothing more then a pieces of siding, a bent (from heat ) frame and wheels burnt and no rubber. The cab was simply a mess burns and not recognizable as to make or style. And there was only one pup there.

I was coming south on I-75 in KY a while back just past exit 175 in the second lane and a Jeep Cherokee just ahead of me has its rear axle break and threw the left rear wheel right in front of me . There wasn't even time to react . It bent my bumper then jammed under the axle but did no damage other than bend the bumper . Things could have been a lot worse if it hadn't gone under my truck and started bouncing off 4 wheelers .

You must have seen a different crash. The one I was talking about happened as described in the previous posts. The semi and the first pup remained in the median unscathed. The back pup is what crossed the median after coming unhooked when they hit a spare tire/wheel in the roadway. No fire was involved.
