Wednesday Wellness Tip: A Spoonful of Vinegar Makes the Sugar Go Down, In the Most Delightful Way!

There is more proof! Vinegar not only helps lower post meal blood sugar levels, but it also seems to lower the number of calories you eat throughout the day.

The Arizona State University researchers that conducted this newest study said, "The antiglycemic properties of vinegar are evident when small amounts of vinegar are ingested with meals composed of complex carbohydrates."

They had study participants consume drinks with either 20 grams of apple cider vinegar, 49 grams of water and 1 teaspoon of saccharine right after eating breakfast. And they found that blood glucose levels were 35% lower after drinking the vinegar drink compared to the water drink. And they found that the participants ate at least 300 calories less throughout the day after the vinegar drink in the morning!

The health benefits of vinegar are getting more and more evidence behind it now. There are several studies that ultimately show blood sugar levels are lower after eating or drinking vinegar. But there are several different claims as to how, when and how much.

Salad dressing with vinegar, vinegar pills, spoonful of vinegar. After breakfast, with any meal, with high fiber meals. There are no conclusions yet that tell us the most effective method and timing, but we do know that vinegar helps control blood glucose.

Here are a few ideas on how to work vinegar into your meals and recipes
» Salad dressings (there are tons of recipes)
» Bean salads
» Homemade (low carb) barbecue sauce with vinegar
» Use vinegar to spice up tomato bruschetta
» Vinegar based glazes or marinades for beef, chicken, and fish
» Use vinegar in homemade tomato salsas
» Stir fries
» Some baking recipes call for vinegar
» Tuna salad or egg salad
» There are vinegar drink recipes (especially for cider vinegar). Just be careful of how much sugar is called for.

Talk with your doctor to see if vinegar is something you should add into your daily meal plan and diabetes plan. And check back here to find updates on the latest research, including your spoonful of vinegar updates.

Ur health continued:: So u have a bad cold, runny nose, the whole deal ugh? Do this to get yourself breathing: cup of water, add 3 teaspoons of vinegar( cheap stuff for this, white vinegar),and a pinch of cayenne pepper ground type in store. Heat this up or use the hot water in the truckstop at the coffee machines and breath this in. U will feel it, dont worry, u will live and ur nose will say thankyou. Re: Take care of ur Heart, some info and a receipe.

Just try to walk as much as possible, PS went to the VA today for the once year exam theydo there to me,, so physical, ekg, chest xray, blood work up, doctor consultation, 1000 questions by the doctor (lol). and Im good to go..................BP was 109 over 75, really good.

I just walk, drink apple cider vinegar daily, 3 tablespoons to a quart of water and take my meds. I only take 2 meds, one for blood pressure, and acid reflux and thats it. Many times I do not take the acid reflux meds due to the apple cider vinegar keeps that knocked down and as for the blood pressure pills, I forget to take them sometimes which is not , no , not a good thing to do , but my blood pressure is ok with walking and such, but I really need to take those bloodpressure pills , you never know when something can get out of hand.....

When it comes to fitness and health, your heart beat is a helpful instrument to indicate where you're at and where you need to be.

A normal resting heart rate can range anywhere from 40 to 100 beats per minute. Generally speaking, lower resting heart rates (RHR) indicate a higher level of fitness. This is because your heart gets stronger with exercise and more efficient with pumping blood to the body; more blood is pumped with each beat so that fewer beats are required to do the work it needs to do.

RHR will differ from person to person, based on height, weight, sex, age and physical condition, and is best measured when you first wake up in the morning, before you even leave the sheets. Grab a stopwatch, or a clock or watch with a second hand. Using your index finger and middle finger together, find the beat in the carotid artery in your neck or radial artery on your wrist, and count the beats for 60 seconds.

There are numerous charts online that offer RHR ranges to determine whether you are within a healthy number of beats per minute. These charts can help to give you a general idea of your range, however it's best to consult your physician for the most accurate information.

Regular, consistent cardiovascular exercise is your ticket to success. So walk, bike, jog, climb or swim your way to heart health—and remember: consistency is key. If you skip a day, get right back on it the following day.

Keep up the hard work—for you, your body, mind and heart.

Re: Take care of ur Heart, some info and a receipe.

When it comes to health-related buzzwords, "BMI" is one that certainly gets a lot of exercise.

Short for "Body Mass Index," BMI is a comparison of weight to height commonly used to determine an individual's weight status and associated risk of disease.

The formula for determining BMI is as follows: weight (pounds) / [height (inches) x height] x 703.

Once you know your BMI, you can determine where you fall on the adult BMI scale:

• Underweight: below 18.5
• Normal weight: 18.5 - 24.9
• Overweight: 25.0 - 29.9
• Obese: 30.0 and above

Before you panic…
It's important that you remember a few things when it comes to your BMI. First, BMI isn't a static statistic. If you've been characterized as overweight or obese, you're not forever doomed to that status. You have the power to change —

And here is where FMSCA needs to pay attention....a skinny guy can be in worse shape then a fat guy...

Another thing to remember is that BMI is just one factor in your overall health. Those of "normal weight" who smoke, refrain from exercise or eat poorly, are still at risk of health complications. On the other hand, an overweight individual who exercises regularly and maintains his/her blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels can dramatically reduce health risks.

So don't let your BMI get you down. Think of it as your starting point, and your motivation to keep moving toward improved health. Numbers might not lie, but they can absolutely change!

Re: Take care of ur Heart, some info and a receipe.

With one of our most love-centric holidays on the horizon, talk has turned to matters of the heart.

Valentine's Day, being hopelessly devoted to keeping the hearts of those you love happy, is all wrapped up in the mushy, gushy, sentimental stuff. But did you know that February is dedicated to improving and maintaining the health of this oh-so-very vital organ as well?

That's right, designated "American Heart Month" by the American Heart Association, February is a time when particular attention is paid to the importance of getting educated about how to live heart-healthy lives and battle cardiovascular disease.

Happy-up your heart this Valentine's Day!
