Senator Gregg Statement on His Withdrawal for Consideration of U.S. Commerce Secretary

Sen. Gregg stated, “I want to thank the President for nominating me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This was a great honor, and I had felt that I could bring some views and ideas that would assist him in governing during this difficult time. I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle.

“However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.

“Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.

“I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.

“As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President’s proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.

“Kathy and I also want to specifically thank Governor Lynch and Bonnie Newman for their friendship and assistance during this period. In addition we wish to thank all the people, especially in New Hampshire, who have been so kind and generous in their supportive comments.

“As a further matter of clarification, nothing about the vetting process played any role in this decision. I will continue to represent the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.”

i'm sure if all members of his cabinet are allowed to 'do their best' and he heeds their advice he will do a better job, but if he needs a group of 'yes sir' flunkeys his decisions will be adversely affected... i may not agree with his liberal views, but if thats all he wants to hear it doesn't bode well for him or the country. at this time i think the old advice of 'get the best people you can, and let them do their job' as a primary leadership trait would be good.

One of the problems is the "Person" that "owns" Obama. That person or special interest group is running the White House is who is really running things. Obama is too short on talent and experience to have made this far without being bought. It is really starting to show now. It happened faster than I thought it would but things will only go down hill from now. I just hope that the Constitution survives the next 4 years and then we have our last chance to remain a free country and throw out who ever it is that is pulling this puppets strings. You are correct OVM and it has been that way for a very long time. This country is at a crossroads. We, the People, have an amazing opportunity starting in 2010. We have the chance to take back our government. First people have to really look at what is going on and stop making excuses for things like the government finding ways to curtail things like conservitive talk radio, private gun ownership etc. Read history, read it hard. EVERY government that did what ours is doing now went on to become a horrible killer of millions of thier own people. Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia are prime examples. Second, people have to regain a love for thier own freedom. So many today are afraid of freedom. They have a sad need to be "Cared for". How very sad. How sad not to have the "Stones" to want to do it on you own. Third, they have to go to the voting booths in numbers like we have never seen before. We HAVE to start voting out EVERY incumbent, reguardless of party, every election until they get the messege, WE the People run this government!!!! You work for US, not the other way around. I fear that this will not happen but pray that is does. I have no wish to be cared for or ruled by anyone. I wish to remain free, in total control of my life and destiny. It is the most basic of human rights and the most important next to life itself. Layoutshooter

You are correct. It really saddens me that so many people are willing to give up what hundreds of millions of people all over the world to die to have. Just for a pocket full of the empty promises of free wealth. One thing should make this clear. Just how many from the U.S. emigrate to countries with less freedoms and more socialism/marxism and how many are willing to risk death to come here. That SHOULD say it all. I just cannot understand it. Maybe we just had it way too good for way to long and now that it is a bit tough, not even close to the worst economic times in our history, we panic and are willing to throw away our freedoms. HEY!! Did you notice that I am not ranting? LOL Layoutshooter

More like 11 hours of straigt un-interupted sleep!!!! I did look again at my numbers for the year. That helped a ton. Some more info came in and we are up in EVERY catagory. Even gross revenue and numbers of runs for the year. Who knows what might happen in the future but I will take the time to enjoy what has happened and continue to work as hard as I can to insure what it stays this way. If that changes, I will deal with it as it comes. I refuse to fall into the general panic that this Administration and the media are using to isure that they can push through legislation that will most likely turn us into a socialist state. Things are just not that bad!! They have been far worse in history, even in our lifetime. Just remember our un-employment rate of 7-8 is not much higher than the normal rate in the big socialist states in Europe in good years. If what I see this government doing goes through and takes hold be prepared for an un-employment rate of 5-7% as the base norm. Layoutshooter
