God gets snubbed by DNC

It's fair to assume the "God and Jerusalem" language was omitted to appease their left-wing base.

A delegate from Salt Lake City, of all places, objected to the use of God in the language because it introduces religion into governmental politics which goes against the separation of church and state.

She did agree with the reinstatement of the Jerusalem language.

What makes the comments from this female delegate so deeply fascinating is not that she's from Salk Lake City, though that would certainly be enough, but the fact that she's a Muslim.

A Muslim who understands the importance of a separation of church and state? How can that possibly be?

The DNC is not a state function. It is a party function. The delegates at the DNC, or those tasked with writing the platform, wished to omit time-honored acknowledgment of God. Now, in response to blowback, they acquiese. It's not the separation of church and state here, but the separation of church and Democrat Party.

What religion would the DNC be establishing with the mention of God? Nothing says God cannot be talked about, just no religion established. They cannot prohibit the free exercise of religion either. Again, this is not the Congress either.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Correct, just the re-vote.

I have not seen or heard anything regarding why the language was changed, either. I suppose it could be for any number of reasons (most of which were obviously designed to make Republicans crap themselves).

Looked to me like the Democrats were the ones crapping themselves. That was true entertainment watching the farce of a vote. Or at least the farce of interperting the vote.

Of course God is present at the DNC. The controversy surrounds the failure to acknowledge or reference God in the DNC platform. Prior to this year's convention, it has been customary to acknowledge our Creator. It is difficult for some Democrats to admit there's something greater than Bill Clinton or Barack Obama.

I saw it on the news. They held the vote 3 times, then declared 2/3 were in the affirmative. Sounded like 40% yeah and 60 % nay. Democracy, you gotta love it! Or bend it to fit your purpose!!
deem and pass, you remember and we want a government like that so we dont have to use the constitutional medthod.

I never said it was a state function, I said it was governmental politics, which it is.

Prior to this year's convention, it has been customary to acknowledge our Creator.
Well, customary in the last four Democratic Platforms, anyway. Before that's it's pretty thin, anything but customary. God wasn't mentioned at all in 1988, 1984, or 1980. Or 1976, or 1972, or 1968, or in 1964. It was mentioned in 1960, in the last line of the Platform, "In this spirit, we hereby rededicate ourselves to the continuing service of the Rights of Man-everywhere in America and everywhere else on God's earth." (You're not gonna like what "in this spirit" refers to, tho).

God was prominently mentioned in 1952, the year where the campaign was at its height to thwart those Godless commies, culminating with the addition of "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance two years later in 1954. But nary a mention again in two years in the 1956 Platform. So prior to the last four Platforms, God was acknowledged once in the previous ten.

Frankly, I'm too lazy to back any further than that and look. If anyone is so inclined, here ya go --> Political Party Platforms

I'm wondering why Republicans could give a rat's furry little behind about what is in the Democratic Platform statement, considering nothing in the statement will sway a single Republican voter to vote for a Democrat. The Platform will not, and never has, changed position and polices of the adminstration, regardless of which party sits in the White House.

Incidentally, here is a section from one of the two major political party's 2012 Platform Statement. Can you guess which one it is?
Faith. Faith has always been a central part of the American story, and it has been a driving force of progress and justice throughout our history. We know that our nation, our communities, and our lives are made vastly stronger and richer by faith and the countless acts of justice and mercy it inspires. Faithbased
organizations will always be critical allies in meeting the challenges that face our nation and our world – from domestic and global poverty, to climate change and human trafficking. People of faith and religious organizations do amazing work in communities across this country and the world, and we believe in lifting up and valuing that good work, and finding ways to support it where possible. We believe in constitutionally sound, evidence-based partnerships with faith-based and other non-profit organizations to serve those in need and advance our shared interests. There is no conflict between supporting faith-based institutions and respecting our Constitution, and a full commitment to both principles is essential for the continued flourishing of both faith and country.

The chairman's ears were telling him one thing and his eyes at the teleprompter was telling him another. :D

Anthony Villallogrosa, held 3 floor votes to add GOD, to the platform, all three were shouted down, on the 3rd vote he just said ok , The ayes have it, he was immediatlly booed.

Its not a rummor, it may have been oversight but its hard to miss the intent of the booing and floor vote outcomes. I give the dems credit this year for at least being honest about being godless. Socialism is the economics of secular humanism, Ive been telling so called christian democrats this for years, at least now the dems have disrobbed themselvves

Politics @ it's very best. they got what they aimed for.
yes they got God & his city back on the platform - only long enough to earn some well needed votes.
but God & his city where not supposed to be in the books to begin with,
& beside when they did ask & the crowd shouted to keep them out,
so god & his city sneaked in via a technical mistake,
heck they might take God & his city off the platform shortly after the elections.
& probably will.
any bet God & Jerusalem will stay on the Dem. Platform for the next 4 years ?
Didn't think so.
