Well to put into context and not to be disrespectful to our great and shining leader we call Mr. President, it is meant to say he is the center of our puny solar system which many consider him our messiah, our prophet of all man kind and like many many other solar systems with shining stars, it is no doubt that he and other orbs in the center have only great things in store for our worlds - be it human or big eared aliens.

Rather typical weather patterns for an El Nino year. Not even a particularly strong El Nino either. Next year should bring a La Nina. All part of a extremely short natural cycle, a 4-7 year cycle. Nothing new, again.

Well it was pointed out;

Why would the winter olympics be played in a place that has a mild climate?

AND

If the UN and all these other organizations are so concern, why hold the olympics at all. The amount of carbon thrown into the enviornment just in travel for training and prep of the venue let alone the event itself should be the reason to stop having any and all future olympics.

Not mention other more or less useless things, like auto races, concerts, football, baseball, hockey (on other than natural ice) basketball (on other than unlighted outdoor courts and on and on.

It is easy to see the "true" global warming agenda when you see just what they tend to go after or not go after. What a joke and the joke is on us. Just another means of taking away our freedoms.

I have never bought into Global Warming.
I believe that temperature changes, blizzards, hurricanes, droughts and all other manner of climate change is part of the natural cycle of the planet.
I do believe we are depleting our natural resources and polluting the planet. Hopefully if we all try a little harder not to pollute there will be some clean air and water for our grandkids.

Well, let's see, the water where I live is way cleaner than it was 30 years ago. (the Great Lakes and the Detroit River in particular) So is the air. Cars are much cleaner, so are power plants, outboard engines and so on down the road. Things are cleaner in many places in the U.S.

I don't know of any resources that are being depleted yet. I do agree that we should put even less "stuff" into the air and water, just because that is what we should be doing.

We must not lose sight of just how far we have really come, continue to improve and guard against back sliding. We must also insure that our "cures" do not cause more damage than they fix. That is happening as we speak.

Layout,

The thing is I would normally agree with you on the events you mentioned but the fact is they are not multiday, multinational events where people are traveling in mass to go to them. A football game, even those wild soccer games in the EU don't pollute anywhere near the amount an equal olympic event does.

Also what if we get rid of the EPA?

Do you think that we the consumers can demand that companies selling products and keep them clean, cars for example?

As far as pollution, the earth is amazing but people are dumb. One professor on the history channel (life after humans I think was the show) said it would take hundreds of years to return the earth back to a clean planet but failed to tell the truth the earth has never been "clean".

That's what the "greenies" just want to completely ignore. What industrial man has done is a spit in the ocean compared to what the planet does to itself.

Greg, I was not comparing them to the olympics as much as I was pointing out how the "in crowd", the "left", is only out to destroy our industrial base. If they were truly interesting in the evironment they would ban all those things along with golf.

Everyone, every sport, every human action as effects on the earth. Some more harmful than others. Some are faked, some are not understood. Some are easy to fix, some very difficult.

Each person must do what they can to leave behind as little damage as they can. If everyone did just a little in their own back yard the big things would not be so big.

I don't believe they hype I read. I do believe in acting responsible and working to fix/clean up real problems.

Like ban plastic water bottles!! Make recycling mandatory "where possible"

An aluminum can has infinite life span.

Look what we did at Love Canal alone...?

The great lakes...dumping of raw sewage...How many beachs are closed every summer?

We don't have an influence on this world? Not quite true.

The dumping of PCB's yet another example...since dredging of harbours and banning PCB's as LOS says Lake Ont and Erie have really cleaned up nicely...not perfect but nicer...

I have seen the effects of acid rain...down wind from big cities...west side of tree is brown while the east side is green...

As LOS says we have to also be responsible.

Yes the EPA does good work of monitoring most polluters of our valuable resources..BUT like any government service they have mental lapses of silliness...

Since Ontario power spent multi millions on high tech scrubbers the trees are making a come from the two tone colouring...acid rain is not so much a danger....but more needs to be done to make coal even cleaner.
Marshland reclamation should also be accelerated...it is a valuable ecosystem that lets mother nature clean the water ways "naturally"
