Is it any different than the "In lieu of flowers" notices included in obits, or the "In lieu of gifts" riders on invites to anniversary/birthday parties?
OVM is right: the small donors are the ones who should be solicited, because there's no real expectation of quid pro quo, as there is with the heavy donors.
But then the money raised should be used toward the debt, rather than campaigning, lol.

There is a big difference..in the cases as you present, that would be the parties that would be recieving the gifts saying, "instead of giviing to us, give elsewhere"...with barrys "marketing efforts, it is a direct 3rd party solicitation....

Now, that being said, if a person wants to register with barrys "Registary", then yes that falls as you stated....but i for one have never used a "registration" of anytype of any occasion in my gift giving...as i am sure my others never have....but i also realize many "woman" do use them...

Granted, some specify a charity, but many specify a fund set up specifically to benefit the family/survivors in the cases of death.

I don't use them either, but that's irrelevant - a lot of people do. And when it comes to 'gift giving' arrangements, the overwhelming majority is done by women, so their choices predominate.
If it helps reduce the big money influence in politics, I like it. But I'm cynical enough to believe that it won't reduce it, just add more money to a process that consumes waaaaay too much already.

Dallas? Dude, I don't own a tv, and wouldn't watch 'soap operas' if I did - I just thought there are better uses for money than political campaigning, which benefits most those who deserve it least [politicians & ad agencies].

And fpor my money, I have no doubt this is aimed at the female voter.....a base that is shrinking for barry...i am not saying it is swinging to romeny, but i think alot of females will not vote left with the decision between these 2....

There's a big difference between a family saying in lieu of flowers give to a certain charity and a political campaign saying instead of sending your uncle/aunt whoever a present this year send a donation to us on their behalf. No, probably more of a BIG difference. You'd know it would be the left to first go there.
