I think a few of you need to really learn what Georgia is to the world and what really has been happening. hdxpedx is really on target and it is us, the US who are sitting by while an ally is being slammed. Everyone is expecting to see the UN to get involved and stop the killing, but France has been one who has been trying to water down things while we sit on our hands while Georgia wants Nato and the US to get involved.
But as hdxpedx pointed out, we are being really stupid. We are so concern about the environment, stopping our country in it's tracks without any one caring. The people who want to see more of the BS that is going on in congress will be surprised when Russia kicks the p*ssed out of anyone who opposes them.
Our lack of leadership in both congress and WH needs to be changed, so vote these guys out of office. AND for God's sake don't vote for Obama.
Oh for the War for Oil crowd, this is the real War for Oil.

1. Be part of Coalition and help Britian and U.S. in Iraq and send in Minimal troops.
2. Wait till U.S. troops appear to be free enough to be moved.
3. Attack Osseita province (sneak attack at that)
4. Knowing Russia would throw everything at them.
5. Counting on the U.S and British to help them....Drag us into it...

OVM... I'm trying to follow your logic here. Are you cheering for the Russians? Your giddiness seems to indicate so. Russia will try to reassemble the old Soviet bloc soon and we(America) may well meet them on a battlefield someday.

Russia won't win, they don't really want to win, they want to test things and posture themselves diplomatically to force some recognition that they are strong again.

I heard on the news while driving today, that Georgia has oil pipelines competing with Russian pipelines. Could this be Putins real problem?

Yep, it all comes down to a war with oil when it comes to Georgia, but it is at the same time a test to see who reacts to what is going on. The world didn't tremble but it also didn't do much.

Your example is crap....has no revelance...You don't think the US postures itself in the same way...tests the waters so to speak? Your all still stuck in the Cold War days...Did you really think Russia was going to let Georgia go unpunished for thier sneak attack over here it would have been labelled as a terrorist act...Georgia was playing us for fools and we didn't bit....almost but didn't...I am quite sure there are dipomats rounding around behind the scenes....

The thing is this example was used this morning by some NYTs reporter who was asked what this was all about, so what can I say, it wasn't my original thought but used under the fair use clause.
