I'm sure they woudn't mnd if we helped out in the cause.

On January 20, 2005 (Inauguration Day), our grassroots, nonprofit organization will call into action a national boycott of gasoline in the United States of America. We are urging millions of citizens to participate in our effort to demand and promote alternative energy sources. Citizens of this great country are frustrated, not only by the high cost of gasoline, but also by the failure of our representatives in Congress who speak of pursuing alternative energy sources, but never act on their promises.

By not using our national voice to stand up for what is right and by remaining in a state of complacency for four years, we have allowed our government to sell our democracy to big business, oil companies and questionable contractors who have many conflicts of interest.

Don't be deterred by past boycotts of gasoline that haven’t made an impact! This time around, everyone will take interest.

If you are frustrated with governmental polices, outraged by the skyrocketing cost of gasoline, or discouraged by the lack of progress made to find alternative energy sources, we are asking for your support. So tell all your family, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and even strangers on the street to take part in our nationwide boycott of gasoline.

I'm interested in alternative energy sources, but first and foremost, I'm a businessman who's worried about my bottom line... fuel costs. When everyone knows the government is sold out to big business, whether it be big oil or big auto, why not pressure the car manufacturers? I'm sure if ppl stopped buying new cars in "anticipation" of new energy, they'd move their butts. Unfortunately, everything is tied into the oil market. My best guess is that they already have a system for a new fuel such as hydrogen, but it won't be public till the oil companies have sucked the oil fields for what they're worth. Telling ppl not to get fuel for one day is like asking them not to breathe. As a society, we refuse to do anything about the things that bother us, as it's an inconvenience. One other thing... why does our government (OUR TAXES) have to pay for a new source of energy??? What ever happened to inventers? Like I said... the system is already built. No one is in a rush to use it as long as we are complacent in filling up at the station.

This is Tennesseahawk.... good day. ;-)

This reply is from DocRushing, not from Special K:

Beth (Special K) has used some interesting words.
What do they mean?
To what do they refer?

"By not using our national voice to stand up for what is right ..."

What is "our national voice?"
What is that?
How did we not "stand up for what is right?"
In Beth's view, what is "right" in this instance?

"... and by remaining in a state of complacency for four years ..."

Exactly what is that "state of complacency?"
Are we already in such a state?
To which "four years" did she refer?

"... we have allowed our government to sell our democracy ..."

Has that happened?
Did we allow that to happen?

"... to big business, oil companies, and questionable contractors who have many conflicts of interest ..."

If Beth has any evidence to prove her allegations, let her present her evidence, then we'll take the matter under advisement.

"This time around everyone will take interest."

Why? What will make a difference this time?
Besides, what useful purpose would that serve?
How would that work?

Many of us feel much concern about energy cost these days.
But we shall not change anything by postponing our fuel purchases one time by one day -- from Thursday the 20th until Friday the 21st of January, the next day, the day after Inauguration Day.

Beth may have overlooked the point that the vast majority of us expediters (and other truckers) buy and burn diesel fuel, not gasoline, in our business vehicles.

Beth's note and her movement appear to be very sincere, but they also appear to be very ill-founded and ill-directed.

Meanwhile, let's all continue to conserve fuel as well as possible -- and to improve our ability to do so.

Best wishes to all,
Doc.

DocRushing.

PS. This reply from me just got posted as though it had come from Special K, not from me (DocRushing). How did that happen?

If you're using the same computer, she must have still been logged in when you went to post, or had 'auto login' checked.

Inauguration Day? Makes you wonder if this woulda been planned if Kerry got in. Probably not, as he woulda promised a new energy source from burning rocks.
Oh...wait a min. We have that! It's called COAL! :7
