Fremont voters say yes to immigration ordinance

Fremont voters approved an illegal immigration ordinance in a special election Monday.

Unofficial results from the Dodge County Clerk's Office showed voters approving the measure 57 percent to 43 percent.

With approximately 45 percent voter turnout, 3,906 ballots were cast in favor of the ordinance and 2,908 against. Sixteen precincts voted for the ordinance while voters in four precincts were opposed.

The ordinance would ban the harboring, hiring of and renting to illegal immigrants.

"The people have spoken," State Sen. Charlie Janssen said.

"Most would agree that the illegal immigration issue is one that needs to be dealt with," Janssen said, "but for whatever reason the federal and state governments have been either unwilling or unable to address the issue, so it fell upon concerned citizens on the local level to step up and take control of their future. They have taken this critical step, and now we must all come together as a community."

Good for them.:) With any luck this trend will spread. Now, if we can just get the big cities to join in AND extend this to fighting ALL crime. Just a dream, I know. :(

Maybe I can persuade my SIS to see if her county and mine could invoke such a bylaw as well...don't really need it..it would be pre-emptive but it would show support...who knows...maybe it will spread?

Maybe you could use your influence there in Monroe, with all your fishin and hunting buddies....go for it...

Thats good as more and more cities counties and states do this the Fed will get the message......

yep...the feds will have to justify a great expense just trying to justify stopping people from following a law...it is goofy situation....enforce the law...don't complicate the simple.
