Found it by accident!

Sometimes the best things are found totally by accident. Such was the case for us this afternoon. Great Texas Bar B Que !!!

We had left Dallas with our load and headed east on I-30 when at about the 127mm I noticed a strap flapping in the wind on the passenger side of my load. Not our strap, the shipper's that worked it way out from the inside of the crate. Since it wasn't the all important strap holding the load onto my deck I waited to stop until I got to the EB rest area at the 144mm on I-30 in Mount Vernon, TX.

Now I really did'nt want to stop there because I had a Subway sandwich waiting just a bit further up the road. Now I thank God for that strap coming loose!!! Upon stepping out of my cab it hit me. The sweet aroma of Texas Bar B Que. I followed the trail of smoke past the restrooms to a gate in the fence that gives access to the frontage road behind the rest area, Directly across the road was Big Creek Cafe.

It may look like a little hole in the wall mom and pop cafe but let me tell you, that was some of the best pulled pork dinner I've had in a very long time. Although we chose to eat in the truck, the dinning area is decorated in John Deere colors and J D curtains, etc. The owners were quite friendly, good down home Texans. The menu had a good variety including homemade pies. Parking is non-existant for trucks so park in the rest area and walk over. It'll be good for ya. Tell em the guy with the jet engines sent you. LOL:D

We have never been to this place but it's called "The worst BBQ in TX it's on the east side of I35 in the Austin area. We saw it on a BBQ comparison show on tv,they actualy sell out of a couple tons, yes I said tons a day. they said they opened in the morning but had no set closeing time just when ever they run out. My wife spotted it one day as we were coming north but we had already ate.Man I'm getting hungry!!Maybe I can get someone to expedite me some to where I'm sitting in jersey.

A couple of years ago, en route to Mexico, we stopped at a place in Little Rock called the Whole Hog Cafe. Absolutely phenomenal barbecue, and even better potato salad. Swore I'd go back.

Just got done with a run from Virginia Beach to Albuquerque. En route, I spied a sign in Conway, AR, bearing the same name. I hit the next exit, did a u-turn, then woke the wife up. Same restaurant; new location. Right on I-40.

My 3 weaknesses: Real southern barbecue, real Mexican or Puerto Rican chow, and my lovely spousal unit.
