Sometimes the best things are found totally by accident. Such was the case for us this afternoon. Great Texas Bar B Que !!!
We had left Dallas with our load and headed east on I-30 when at about the 127mm I noticed a strap flapping in the wind on the passenger side of my load. Not our strap, the shipper's that worked it way out from the inside of the crate. Since it wasn't the all important strap holding the load onto my deck I waited to stop until I got to the EB rest area at the 144mm on I-30 in Mount Vernon, TX.
Now I really did'nt want to stop there because I had a Subway sandwich waiting just a bit further up the road. Now I thank God for that strap coming loose!!! Upon stepping out of my cab it hit me. The sweet aroma of Texas Bar B Que. I followed the trail of smoke past the restrooms to a gate in the fence that gives access to the frontage road behind the rest area, Directly across the road was Big Creek Cafe.
It may look like a little hole in the wall mom and pop cafe but let me tell you, that was some of the best pulled pork dinner I've had in a very long time. Although we chose to eat in the truck, the dinning area is decorated in John Deere colors and J D curtains, etc. The owners were quite friendly, good down home Texans. The menu had a good variety including homemade pies. Parking is non-existant for trucks so park in the rest area and walk over. It'll be good for ya. Tell em the guy with the jet engines sent you. LOL
