Since there is no pet forum, I will post this message in the general forum for expediters that have pets on-board:
Our breeder that we purchased our boston terrier Abby from informed us that another client of hers, that is a driver has had two dogs stolen from his T/T in two separate incidents. Both times the cab was broken into and Fido taken while the driver was away from his rig for a short period of time. These are not the only recent pet thefts we have heard about.
Unfortunately, taking your pet outside for walks at truckstops etc, exposes them to the very eliment that may be up to no good! They have to go outside thus allowing the bad people to see which vehicles have pets. Then they just wait and watch, hoping you will leave your rig (and pet) unattended long enough for them to break in. Other than the vehicle being attended at all times, or at the very least within constant eyesight, you cannot assure that your Fido won't be stolen.
Even before but especially now with Abby, we never leave our T/T unattended. One of us is always with the rig. You might call it a sort of "doggie ddps" that is becoming more important with each passing day. For us she is worth this effort to keep her from falling into the wrong hands and end up being sold to the dog fighting industry as training dogs, etc! So please fellow expediters, keep your pets safe.
