Female columnist sets poor example for female professionals

I read the article, I didn't give the language a second thought. Maybe because I'm used to hearing worse?
Personally, it's the "F" word that I can't stand. That is the word that's become the norm, and it makes me nuts! When ever I hear a person using that word, I immediately tune them out. To me, that only shows ignorance. Hmmm....maybe I should take that a step farther and think of the others words in the same way. Clean up my own act, and then maybe I would give the "mild" cursing a second thought?

If the language offends you who cares if it was a direct quote from a MAN to a woman interviewing him? Women cuss, period. Men cuss, period. If you are one that does not good for you......but to get your uprorar up over the sex of the REPORTER that used a direct quote is more offensive to me than the use of the quote. Bad taste for a magazine to not tone it down? probably.....but would a****** have been any better?

Charlee , I appreciate your post because it lets me know how to explain what I'm trying to get at . Yes , men cuss , women cuss , and I do on occasion also . But most of us pretty much admit we know the language is inappropriate because we refrain from using it in the presence of certain individuals or groups . That is done out of respect . So to use the language directed at a certain group is showing disrepect .You are letting that group know they aren't worthy of respect you would show others . I don't think any less of a person that cusses unless they do so in public . Should we have a poll of how members regard a person cussing in public ? Are they regarded with less respect , more respect , or does it not matter . Lang writes poorly . The whole motivation for that article was she saw Montoya in a chewing gum commercial and she was awed by the fact Montoya said nobody tells him what to do . It's just a commercial , for God's sake ! Is she that gullible ? NASCAR has volumes of regulations telling Montoya what to do . Montoya would never win a race if he didn't do what experienced drivers and his crew chief tell him what to do . There is a lot positive to be written about Montoya . He recently visited his native country and makes regular contributions to help people there . Lang just wasted space with her article .
I wasn't aware so many people view fuel stops as a dens of iniquity to be categorized with strip clubs and casinos . Expect entering one to be an experience of self degradation . Interesting , although we have all seen locations that deserve to be categorized that way .

I agree, I thought the article was just plain poor journalism. There was nothing notable of interest. I am not a racing fan, and that article just enforced my perception of racing and drivers. It had nothing to do with the language tho or the sex of the person either writing or being interviewed...the article just wasted my time with nothing of substance.

That's about my attitude toward the article on the ex-junkie wrestler in the previous month's issue . The whole magazine is poor journalism . But don't be too quick to judge racers . Many of them are very benevolent . The NASCAR Foundation - Supported Charities .
That was another thing that irritated me . There is much Montoya has accomplished which could have contributed to an interesting article and been informative to people like you that aren't aware of the true personalities of the racers .

Do you really expect a free rag to have all kinds of interesting articles? You get what you pay for and in this case it is pretty much nothing. And that coming from a Nascar fan!!

Why does anyone think there is any journalistic integrity involved with it, it is a glorified newsletter, not a premiere publication. It is published for an added service to the customers of one company, I never seen it outside of the pilot locations.

I think our standards need to be examined, not because of this article, but because we fail to understand what is journalism and what is entertainment.

I think calling it a glorified newsletter is giving it too much credit - it's just a patched together justification for selling ad space, like so many publications are these days. It's all about the bottom line, right?
Crazynuff can (and should) let the publishers & editors know how he feels, but it's what the advertisers think that really counts, because they are paying for it. If enough folks convince the advertisers to pressure the publisher, editorial content will be changed, I believe.

I think some good points have been made here . "Challenge" is a low grade publication targeting a low grade market . I really don't think any changes can be expected . Those that feel it is a waste of time won't read it . Others may find it entertaining and value those coupons redeemable at Pilot . To each his own .

You mean there are coupons?

You know I understand what you are saying and the meaning behind it, but I am laughing becuase "is a low grade publication targeting a low grade market" and some will think that it is the trucker who is the low grade individual in the low grade market.

Not all truckers , just the ones that find the conditions of the low grade Pilot showers acceptable .
