I watched the news yesterday and was amazed at what I was hearing. Between two stations they interviewed about a dozen autoworkers as they left the plants, half from GM and half form Chrysler.

These auto workers don't get it, they are either in serious denial or have mental problems - I'm thinking the latter.

There were a few who proudly had on their UAW jackets, hats and displaying their Obama buttons. A few said they voted for Obama and can't blame him for this mess, but feel he is not doing enough and one even came on camera with his Obama tee shirt saying that the company will pull through.

Not one of them mentioned that they will be out of work soon, not one of them could comprehend that it is the UAW that screwed them but they all said that Obama is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The sad comment, and it was really sad one that came from a GM worker who said that the problem was not the cars or lack of sales but because the Japanese auto companies don't pay their workers enough money or give them benefits. Note that is it the lack of sales and poor product design that causes them to lose market share, not what the other companies have to deal with, it is all about the market share.

One reporter and automotive industry "expert" said that the UAW has given up so much (notice they didn't say workers) that there isn't much more to give up. Today I was handed a summary of things that they gained and gave up, and what amazes me is that the free computers, the free classes and the other free stuff is counted as a concession to keeping their jobs. The list has a lot of stuff that they can further give up or pay more of.

But if we had automotive industry "experts", real ones then they could advise GM, Ford and Chrysler how to pull out of this mess but as one high profile "expert" commented this past week in Mackinaw, "we just don't know what to do".

Greg, that reminds me of something I'll use as an analogy...

I remember a movie where a man from a Kung! (sub-Saharan Africa) tribe used some pebbles to catch a monkey. He put them in a hole in the tree, then hid in the bushes to watch. The curious monkey wandered up to the tree, stuck his hand in, and grabbed the pebbles; but his hand was stuck. Refusing to let go, he struggled until the tribesman put a rope collar around his neck. Then he threw salt rocks on the ground near the monkey, who cheerfully ate them up. The tribesman waited overnight, knowing the monkey would be extremely thirsty in the morning. He then released the monkey, and followed him to his secret water hole in the rocks.

Obama (the tribesman) coaxes the auto worker (the monkey) until after his hand got stuck in the UAW (the tree). Trying to hold onto his benefits (the stones), he gets trapped. Obama gives the workers the bailout (salt), and follows them to their livelihood, ie. GM (the water). Now, Obama controls the monkey and the water, with help from the tree. The monkey is none the wiser, and gleefully plays in the tree that wouldn't release him. And Obama-Kung! shares the water with the tree for helping him.

That's too good of an accurate description and the best way of putting it in proper perspective.

You know and I know what it is like living on the outside looking in....
