Educating Illegal Immigrants

From an e-mail I received the other day - Snopes has not determined the information to be incorrect. Some of you may have seen this already, but with school starting this month it strikes home as we are alerted once again to the budget difficulties our public schools face.

From a California school teacher - - -
"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of: I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.
Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools. Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America . (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas" :)censoredsign:s< /SPAN>) and throwing things, that the teachers were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, day care, etc., etc, etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements? To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs. Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.

Americans, We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won't have the guts to enforce it. Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave and return? It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about " political correctness" that we don't have the will to do anything about it.

CHEAP LABOR? Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.
Consumers don't want expensive produce.
Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs.
But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. There is no such thing as "cheap labor." Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
He qualifies for food stamps.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief f rom high energy bills.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer's expense .
He doesn't worry about car insu rance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.

CRIMINAL immigrants are a HUGE problem and should be treated the same as the worst offenders in society. They should be DNA recorded and sent away as quickly as possible. They should be told that if they are caught in this country illegally again, with DNA confirmation, they will be executed. There should be no anchor baby status, no free education, no free health care, no free housing, no free anything and no jobs of any sort. CRIMINAL aliens have no business here and shouldn't be tolerated. We should execute all politicians who support and vote for amnesty programs as well.

EVERY alien that came into this country by other than legal means IS a criminal. NO other word fits them. And I don't want to hear any whinning about my being anti-immigration or racist. I am only second generation here. My Mom and Dad where the first born in our family in this country. ALL my reletives came in LEGAL!!! Worked hard. Asked for nothing and learned the 'Merican (English for those who think that what we speak here.) language. If they could so can everyone else. Spanish, Chinesse etc speaking people are just as capable of learning our langauge as the Poles and Italians were. Layoutshooter

I know some people are going to disagree with what I'm about to say and I am prepared for that. I think every American should be able to get a good education if they want one. that's somewhat the case once you get to the college level because one can take loans or whatever they need to do to fund that education. The problem is there are alot of people that didn't get a good foundation in grades k-12. That is a shame. Until our American children are being educated were we are among the top globally we shouldn't be educating another nation's children. You see people coming from overseas and paying to attend our universities but they pay alot more in tuition than a student from the states does. they also don't get the Federal Grant money that some of the lower income families get, or at least my college they don't.

Education is key. If we cease to be a land of educated people they will be many more jobs going overseas. People are more worried about the fact that someone might pray in front of their child or say "One Nation Under God" that people have forgotten about how important education really is. My grandfather had an 8th grade education and taught himself everything else from there. He was a very smart and sucessful man, imo. In this day and age for someone to be sucessful they need to be educated. If not their whole life will be a struggle if they don't get lucky.

I think we should give our children the best education money can buy. My wife and I have already made comments about if we have children chances are they will be in a private school. Not because we think our kids will be any better than anyone else's but if we can find a private school that will provide a better education that is where they will be. In a local private school, not some boarding school.

I think the illegal shouldn't get anything especially an education.

ark, you didn't say anything a sensible person could disagree with. My mom and dad grew up during the depression. My mom was in charge of personnel for an internationally known hotel in the 40's and 50's and was the assistant administrator of a hospital, the number 2 spot in the whole place. She held those positions with only an 8th grade education. She didn't have as much classroom and "book learning" as some but she was smart and she worked hard. Nobody "gave" her anything and she CERTAINLY didn't expect or demand all sorts of handouts.

I don't think anyone could make it to the position you Mother did without a formal education. That's just what I think though.

No, now it would take a college degree. Back then she showed what she could do and was promoted rapidly. When she changed jobs she got glowing references.

Following this theme, I read recently that in 2006 Parkland Hospital in Dallas averaged about 44 babies born every day. 70% OF THESE WERE ANCHOR BABIES born to illegal Mexican immigrants. This information is two years old - I wonder what the figure is now. How much do you think it will cost to provide benefits and education to these parasites, especially if they continue to reproduce at that rate in hospitals all over the Southwestern US? Somebody needs to pass legislation that repeals this nonsense. Perhaps even take it one step farther and deny medical benefits to anyone who is in this country illegally - or perhaps just give them the minimal treatment necessary to immediately get them back into Mexico alive, and send the bill to the Mexican government.

Well first of all the Mexican government isn't good for it if you ask me. I just don't see it getting paid back. Plus if the laws that are one the books now were getting enforced it would make a big difference.

What gets me is when people who are untrained in Immigration, like us, know where we can go find multitudes of illegals it kinda makes you wonder why the I.C.E. can't. It's not that the Federal Government can't find these people and deport them, it's they don't want to. I'm with the lady in the email. I'll pay more for produce. Heck then the growers would have to start paying a leaving wage to people and that would open up more jobs and lower the unemployment rate.

Gee LDB, I can remember when job promotions were based on performance and ability much as you described. When being able to do a job was worth more than pieces of paper. When experance was worth more than book learning. Ever wonder why things are soooo screwed up any more? Not me. That is how we can get a man(?) running for President who has NEVER held a job as an adult. Who openly lies about his stance on issues (abortion) and then lies about the lies. BUT!! He has a degree!!! He hangs around with felons, but that's ok, he's been to college so he must know what he is talking about. Right? Think we have a problem with criminal aliens now? Osama Obama says we should all teach our kids Spanish. Not that McCain is any better on this issue. Soon what we consider law abiding citizens will be the criminals. After all, it was my fault my house was broken into a few years back, by two young punk crack heads. If I had not worked soo hard and bought things with my earnings they could not have stolen it. And because I did not pay them "benefits" to pay for thier drug habit they were "forced" to rob my house. Layoutshooter

You have to remember something about education. A degree can only carry you so far in the real world, Washington, D.C. is not the real world imo, after that work ethic kicks in. I don't think the CEOs of alot of these Fortune 500 companies got there just because they had a degree. Yes it helped them a whole lot, but so does networking and having contacts at different places. Everyday that I go into a business class I'm scoping out the competition. Any chance I get to go to other universities to meet their business majors I do. That just gives me a chance to scope out more competition. That's life. In a way I feel that is what Capitalism is all about. It's there if you want to go out work for it and fight it. It's not going to split up evenly amongst everyone. Why should I have to work hard to get my degree, land a good job, and then have the government re-distribute my earnings to people who had the option to do what I'm doing but were to lazy to do so?

Note: I would like to apologize to my English teacher from last year as I'm sure that last sentence is a run on. :)

LOL, my english teacher is turning over in her grave when I write in here. I agree somewhat about the degree and capitolism. BUT, don't apply it as the ONLY thing. Let's say I go up against a 25 year old for a job. I have 42 years in the work force and he has a degree in basket weaving (a typical liberal arts degree) and no real world work experiance. In most cases the college goober would get the job. Shoot, they don't even have to be able to read to get a degree now. When I was a spy I have one of those educated idiots hired on and put straight into a management position in charge of me and several others, all of us she was put in charge of had at least 15 years in the business at the time. Her degree was in library siciences. That is REALLy realted to Soviet General Staff communication systems. What a farce. Layoutshooter

I didn't have anything handed to me last year, and it doesn't look like I will over the next 3 or 4 until I graduate. I've seen plenty of job postings lately that required a degree or some many year of relevant job experience. I agree about the library science thing. Why go to school to be a librarian and then even attempt to work for the NSA. Use your degree.

Ever wonder why there are SOOO may intelligence failures these days? Now you know. That policy of only promoting and hiring people with degress was instituted turning the Clinton administration. No one could be promoted past GS12 without a degree. It could be in basketweaving or what ever, just so you had one. No amount of performance, decorations, awards or experiance was relivent to make GS13, only the degree. I am not suggesting that you are being handed anything, you have some REAL mile on your back and I don't mean trucking miles. You have a backround that will serve you well in any field you go into. A man that goes through what you did can handle ANYTHING life throws at you. Layoutshooter

Well of course no one can advance past GS12 without a degree, aren't those jobs something like bureaucrat positions?

No Greg, not in the intell business, you had to get up to 15 or higher to be a big time boss. In the old days you could advance all the way to 18 without a degree. The best "higher ups" I EVER worked for in my 20 years in the business were the old timers that started at the bottom and worked thier way up. Like General McFadden of the Army Security Agency. Started life as a private, worked his was up to general. Started as a morse intercept operator, as I was when I started, and NEVER forgot how to talk to us. When he made a change or whatever, it almost always worked, because he knew the job from the ground up. Sort of like you build a house. You have to have a foundation first. Layoutshooter
