Dyno Testing Damage?

Has anyone experienced damage to their vehicles during a dyno test to verify trucks sale? I have read that some dynos damage the tires and that if a dyno is not done properly can destroy engines etc. Has anyone out there had any bad experiences? I have been asked to dyno my truck prior to sale and I agreed, but, now that I have done some reading on the test, I am somewhat apprehensive. Also, anyone know of a reputable dyno shop near Gulfport, Ms? Thanks for any info you may have.

I had mine done at a Cat dealer, no damage done.I was amazed how much of a horsepower loss at the rear wheels when the air-powered fan kicked on.70 horsepower loss on my 3126 250 hp cat.

You can do tire damage on a dyno if you dyno for extended periods or there is poor ventilation. Some (and I do mean some) dyno's have the electric resistance components (that create the load for your truck) inside the rollers that the drive tires sit on. These dynos create a lot of heat in the tires very quickly, luckily, most truck dynos are not this way.

I used to take an infared temp guage with me and while the truck was on the rolls I would check the tire temp, if it got over 150 deg F I would stop the run.

A lot of the damage from using a dyno is related to the pickup and rice burners put on dyno'es and let loose - sometimes they styay too long on them and kind of do a lot of damage from an engine speed of 9000 rpms.

Out of the dozen or so trucks I have had dyno'ed or took to get dyno'ed, not one of them has had any problems ever.

Thanks for all the comments. I did the dyno today at Clarks in Jackson, Ms. Passed everything except the horsepower. Was way down and they advised me it needed new fuel injectors and would bring the horsepower up to par. Really noticed it had a loss of power when I took it up the hills. Truck sat for 8 months while I was oversea's etc. My friend cranked it and moved it around the yard some to lub the seals. Dunno why injectors would pick this time to go. Is there a standard lifetime for them? The spec for the engine was 6" on the blow by and mine came in at 3". They adv this was very good for the engine itself and the drivetrain was in good shape. The injectors priced at $2800.

The engine was a Detroit series 50 with 798K miles. Uses little or no oil between changes. I think the price was for r&r but not sure. I would be doing the replacement in Gulfport, Ms anyway so I would price from there, was just wondering if that would have been a fair price to check the fairness of that dealer.

At the quoted 700.000 per injector,Idont think that is too bad, if labor is involved.I would stay with getting them done at a detroit dealer, using oem injectors for the warranty and performance.
