Why did the FTC wait so long, 30,000 people scammed, before they acted? It's great that they acted, but they should have been all over this after about complaint #7.

I don't know why they waited so long or why they aren't getting more of them shut down. In spite of being listed on the do not call registry these scum call 2 to 4 days per week, sometimes more than once per day. If they all dropped dead five minutes ago it would be no loss at all.

None of these companies can do what they claim anyway. They have no-not-any connection to the bank that issued your card, and without that connection they are powerless to lower your interest rate. Even if they say President Obama said they could. (Shortly after Obama got sworn in the first time, I got calls saying "President Obama said" something he probably didn't say-- but it sounded close to something he did say.)

And the FTC knows about it very quickly. Yet, they wait for...e...ver to act. They wait until big numbers have been scammed, and then they raise their arms and loudly and proudly proclaim one of their (too little too late) victories. Scams, false advertising, products that don't do what is promised, they know about these things from day one. The latest one is the testosterone pill that is supposed to cure everything from a fat, carb-laden beer belly to a small wee-wee to the heartbreak of psoriasis. It's a load of crap and the FTC knows it, yet they are letting these ads be run over and over every day. Eventually, after a bazillion bottles have been sold, they'll shut them down for false advertising, and then crow about it. But, they're all over a mascara ad that's been Photoshopped to show those long and luscious lashes, sometimes before the ad has even appeared in print.

I thought those testosterone pills were phony. Besides, being as horny as a teenager wouldn't exactly be an advantage for me today. They arrest dirty creepy old men who chase young women, you know.
