Dave P. Well, I've been reading all this Newby info and I'm learning more every day. I guess what I would like to know for now is, what the heck does a person do at the VERRRRY begining of getting into expediting? I understand about looking into the various companies to lease on with, and about finding and buying your vehicle. But what do you do at first? Biz license? Find a good accountant? Insurance? OK, you've got your vehicle, your co. to lease on with, and you go to orentation. Is it that simple? ..I did drive otr TT several yrs. ago for a Co. for a few months, but it was too much of a hasle. Thought I'd get a Sprinter a couple yrs. old. No weight stations, no log books, YEAH BABY, GO, GO, GO!! :)

ONLY if that is all you are going to do.Do you have a buisness plan?Have you crunched the numbers?A MUST IS REALLY LOOK AT THE NUMBERS.Do you know the net income?Miles? All the costs. You may be surprised,More info is needed. How did you do all this so easy?I am sure you are not just jumping in without the facts.Cost per week on the road?Health
insurance?A lot of things you may have not thought about.A lot more than meats the eye.Jimbo

Dave P. No Jimbo, just trying to put together what seems like a great big picture. Let me throw in a couple more facts. #1. I'm single and am a very frugal, thrifty person. That former otr job I had, I was lucky enough to learn from a trainer that taught me to stay out of truck stops(goofing off) and Casinos. We stayed on the road constantly and it became an easy habit, believe it or not. I fully intend to reactivate that habit. #2. I have no one to take care of except myself, and no bills to speak of. With direct deposit, I expect to stay out around 2 mos. at a time. Also, don't drink, don't smoke and as I said don't gamble. But, brother I love to fish do the tourest bit. No drunk gals there! At least not usually!LOL

Dave,I still would do the numbers,All above-great-Look at all of the posts.Expediting is not easy,or no hasle,I will be over powered by more experienced people. But from my view-Look at the posts. You may not find expediting that differsnt from otr, other than more time sitting. What are you planning on running? This will make all the difference,Jimbo

Dave, if you thought OTR was a hassle, just wait till you get into expediting. The slowest time of the year is coming up for the business. The best thing you could do is find an owner and jump in someone else's vehicle. That way, you're learning and not losing money. Then after awhile, get a vehicle if you're still interested.

Dave I decided to try expediting and was offered a job with a trucking co driving a van. I have been with them 7 months now and Have learned a lot. The first month was a nightmare for me. So much to learn. But with my dispatchers help I have come a long way. I am getting paid by the hour which works out good for me starting out. In Feb I will be looking to drive for somebody else where I can get paid more
One thing I really like about my situation is I get to go in the office and see what the dispatchers are doing and how the company runs. This to me is also a learning experience. I have learned where my companies hot spots are and when I can expect a load.
We have such a variety of frieght from big machinery to race car bodies and I get the oppertunity to learn how to secure it all. They now have me moving trucks around the yard and loading them when it is slow. This gives me practice for my b-license driving test that I will take soon.
I hope telling you about my situation can help you
