Did you fall for it?

I was just wondering just how many in here fell for Barry's line that his new emission standards will give us a big increase in fuel efficency? I did not, did you? Tell me why you think so.

About $3,600.00 to each of us. Increase in taxes on power, gas, fuel oil and so on...

How bout making me trade my 1971 chevy in for a new one...That is in the works as well.

I agree with all the costs coming down the road but that was not the point of this question. Does anyone believe that there will be an increase in fuel efficency? In fact, how do you determine is there has been a increase?

I don't believe it for a minute, but lets look at what it will do.. look at this...

these puddle jumper cars that will be needed to get that mileage will cost us more (barry said so, and they think about $1300 more over the hybrid tech that is already about $3000 more then a regular gas car) then we get better mileage, they sell less gas, that means less oli is sold, that price goes up. Then with less gas sold, they collect less TAX on the gas, so eveyone from the cities to the state to the fed will raise the tax there...more cost....then even though they raise gas tax, it won't be enough, so they will impose another form of tax as a maybe a mileage tax that is being kicked around already....

Yeap, we will all see a great savings, because of these new emission and mileage std's.....B/S!!!!

I think we are not getting what I am looking at. Just fuel effiency. How do you determine if there has been a gain? By the overall fleet mileage? On a car by car basis?

Actually part of this is a good thing, it brings one standard into play. The problem is that we, the people, let california run our country and the EPA for a long time and we now have to deal with their standards. They should have looked at Europe, a place they claim that they are copying.

But I was listening to Browner (former EPA head and now energy Czar) and she was saying that they modified the CAFE standard to look at the models closely but that of course is a lie. She also said that this will not cut our choices down but then I refer back to europe where they have a lot more choices than we do.

What I do know that will happen is we will return to tail pipe emissions checks, we will have to put up with eco-boxes and we will see increase in taxes on tires, fuel and other things to change our lifestyle. The insurance institute had a report out a week or so ago saying that small cars kill people - go figure.

Now what problem I do think will come out of this is simple - the car companies will have to go off shore to make these things to offset the cost, an added cost that may not even exist in the first place. Well this will mean losses in jobs, union jobs and we, the tax payer will end up footing the bill for the pensions and even providing retraining and work for the former UAW members - remember if you are UAW you may have a job int he green sector over people who worked hard all their lives.

The real question is why did we listen to the car companies when they said that they could not handle the cafe standards being raised under Bush? What changed? Did they actually lie to the tax payer?

I am getting to the point that I will sell my Union made cars and go back to driving a land rover and a VW - never to buy a UAW made product again.

I get it but I was talked about the phyics of the thing. I don't think there will any real increase in effiency.

Use my truck for example: When I bought it I was getting 8-8.5 to the gallon. With a lot of work I get it up to 10.5-11.5 mpg. THAT is an increase in effiency. If I bought a SAMLLER/lighter truck that got 10.5-11.5 it would be the same mpg but NO increase in effiency!!

It is all smoke and mirrors!!

The ONLY way to have a gain in effiency is to take 2 IDENTICAL cars and get HIGHER MILEAGE!!

Building a little car that gets high mileage is easy. Allow diesel engines in the SAME cars and you will get greater effiency.

It is Sir Issac Newtons fault. If he had not invented gravity and phyics we would not be in this mess!!!

Now, does anyone understand what I was driving (good pun) at now? LOL! Like pulling teeth sometimes.

I won't even go into the overall poluiton rates of battery cars.

In fact, my truck is MUCH better on fuel than ANY production car made anywhere!!

Example: My truck weighs 30,000lbs empty. It gets 10 (rounded off) mpg. For 3000lb car to be as good on fuel as my truck it would have to get 100mpg.

Barry is mixing apples and oranges to rip us off!! To justify new taxes, less capable cars in that name of the really bad science of "Global Warming"
