Did the US and capitalism save Egypt?

I was listening to NPR this morning on the way back home and then turned on the BBC. Both had an interesting take on what happened in Egypt, well more or less what didn't happen in Egypt and why.

The reporters interviewed some Egyption 'experts' who explained why the country didn't have the bloodshed nor had the military go against the people like it is happening in Libya.

The reason is obvious -

The Egyptian military has taken some of the money it has received from the US and invested that money into part of the infrastructure of Egypt. These investments include hotels, cleaners, wholesalers, fuel distribution outlets and a number of retail outlets. The military was very careful in how they handled the situation, not all was perfect until a few Generals came to this conclusion;

We are not going to shoot our customers.

I would prefer to believe the Egyptian military felt empathy and compassion for their fellow countrymen. These civilians were their relatives, neighbors and friends.

The military in Egypt has a ongoing and much better day to day relationship with the people then LE (police) do, police are corrupt and the military tends to be "not so much"...

Now ask yourself what do think the reaction of "most" LEO's and military in this country will be when ordered to open fire on the people here??

Do you know why the military and the citizens of Egypt have a, as you put it, "a better day to day relationship?"

Well 1st the military is small by our standards and it is also more of a "National Guard" as the military feels that they are the "protectors of the people' and the people believe that to be true.

then the fact that all males are required to join the military is another factor and the military is also seen aa away to up ones economic status to the middle class...as the article that Greg posted, the military in eygpt is really an "industrial complex"...they are a for profit corp in the real sense. They own and operate farms, hospitals, manufacturing and retail operations as well as research facilitities that have nothing to do with the military...

When people join the military they are tested to see where they would best fit in the "industrial side" and they are then taught and educated for a job wthin that industry beyond and after their military service, giving them the chance to improve thier lives and 'economic class".....

So their realtionship with the people is not simply on of the armed forces, but can also be on to improve one "lot" in life...

Now, the LEO's, they are or were the corrupt forces of the government and the power that was used against the people...
