This proposal is very, very very, real. It's mostly being sugar-coated in the mainstream media, but Teresa Ghilarducci is a real person and her testimony as reported at the link above is accurate. It also reflects her thoughts and ideas in a book she wrote back in May. I seriously doubt that her proposals will be accepted as-is, but the semi-panic by a lot of people watching their retirement shrink away is giving her renewed steam.

After reading that, it sounds a like a great plan, especially to someone who's taken a 40% hit on the IRA or 401(k). Of course, he leaves out a few details, and it's written to sound like it's all gonna be OK if you just let the government handle things.
