Hmmm....barry has tried to suckup to cuba since Castro became ill and turned the country over to his brother Raul...that hasn't worked out too well...Recently he sent a secret message to Raul through contacts in Spain...not much as come from that that anyone has shown yet....then he dumped the missle shield because he didn't want to offend Russia, but it was ok to screw over Poland and the Czech's now we find that Russia is Rauls friend working to arm Cuba again....Putin said he needed to re-establish a force in Cuba...yet barry wants to "talk" to Russia and Cuba, and anyone else who would do us harm....seems reasonable to me.....

Deja vu! Russians arming Cuba's military

Russia is offering to modernize Cuba's deteriorating weapons systems – installed when the former Soviet Union was expanding worldwide – and it also wants to reactivate a sensitive electronic eavesdropping station on the nearby island at Lourdes, use Cuba as a base to refuel its bombers and a port to replenish supplies on its warships, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

These developments emerged following the visit to Cuba in late September by Gen. Nikolai Makarov, chief of the Russian General Staff. Makarov met with Cuban President Raul Castro in Havana.

Cuba's Soviet-made military equipment has been falling apart. After an assessment, the Russian military has decided to undertake a comprehensive modernization. In addition, the Cuban army also will receive Russian military training

Cuba is only 90 miles south of Florida, where the U.S. has considerable military facilities which the Russians could easily monitor.

"We inspected the condition of this equipment, and outlined the measures to be taken to maintain the defense capability of this country," Makarov said. "I think a lot of work needs to be done in this respect, and I hope we will be able to accomplish this task."

Makarov pointed out that during the Soviet era, the Russians delivered considerable military equipment to Cuba. After all these years, he said, most of the weaponry has become obsolete and needs repair.

Then in August 2008 Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin declared that Russia needed to rebuild its links to the Cuban island.

He was careful not to say that Russia was establishing bases in Cuba, even though Moscow apparently intends to use the Caribbean island as a potential refueling stop for its nuclear-capable bombers and for ports of call for its warships.

Then Russian Air Force chief Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev in March 2009 had made it clear that Cuba, as well as Venezuela, could be used to base Russia's strategic bombers, although the Kremlin was quick to add at the time that such a development was "hypothetical."

"We need to reestablish positions on Cuba and in other countries," Putin said.

The moves have been developing for some time. In December 2008 a group of Russian warships, headed by the destroyer Admiral Chabanenko, visited.

And In 2007, Putin began to focus on Cuba in response to the Bush administration's plans to install a permanent missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic. He said that such action was analogous to the time in 1962 when the then-Soviet Union deployed rockets on Cuba and provoked the Cuban missile crisis.

You know that when Raul and Fidel go, there will be one of two things happening, the old guard will be taken out and shot or the country will be over run by the Miami crowd or even both.

Russia can re-arm cuba, but I think they are tired of living as bad as they do and it may be a case where they will just not want Russia there at all.

You know it amazes me, we are the only country that limits our trade with the island and they are doing so so poorly, so I wonder what is up with Canada, France and England, what has prevented them from stepping in and being a full trade partner with the to replace us.

Well I don't see Canada beating a path to Cuba at all, not one loonie seems to be going there as substantial investment into the country, the same as the Pound and the Euro.

It seems everyone is waiting for the US to get going and lift the embargo for some reason.

The last time I looked, Canada is a pretty big country and it Cuba a small one. It would make more sense to have Canada lead the way and help change things for the better than to wait for the Miami political machine to allow lifting of the embargo, make sense?

OK

So what the Govt do-en about the Gun issue no has said anything about that.

It should be discussed as this could get to be an issue.

especially since Cuba is a skip away so to speak.

It don't take a rocket scientist to figure out what could happen.

So please Elaborate on the Gun issue or did that track go Cold now.

SO OVM, I never doubted Canada's role in Cuba, it seems to be a more proactive position that we could be but again if we were to lift the embargo, go into Cuba with the help of the Castro regime or even without it, it would be like the 1950's all over again with big investors landing before the ink is dry on the order to lift the embargo and buying every piece of land up and building they could to control the island.

I don't want to see this happen.

Remember that our policies are not controlled by any reasonable understanding or political position or even hatred for Cuba but rather a group of elite Cubans in Miami who make demands of every administration since Kennedy because they feel that their property and their country should be controlled by them.
