Yes it is sad, I think the guy was rather entertaining and put a spin on educating kids. To my surprise there was a few minutes of contemplation on the local tv today on how such a animal rights avocate and VIP could meet with such a horrible demise (ISYN) - goes to show Detroit TV is still living in a bubble.

Does that mean all vegans are going to die from soy and tofu poisoning? LOL

Live by Tofu, die by Tofu? Sounds alright to include that too.

Also some Aussies apparently didn't like him and reading about Stingray attacks, I ran across this.

Attacks by stingrays on humans are very rare and only one other person is known to have died from a stingray attack in Australia in 1945. Stingrays sting out of self defense.

So I say we should hunt down every stingray, arrest them and remove the barb for the sake of the children who may play with them.

Come on hawk,I did'nt invent that famous quote.I think it came from the Irish. Now they have a very warped persepective on death.
I had a work mate here at the moving company about 12 years ago.He was a young salesman, bright guy, young family and doing pretty well.
His passion, however, was firearms. From paint guns to Colt 45's,he was into it.He also wanted to be cop in the worst way,to be able to be a armed protector. He told me as much.
He finally became a reserve in Palo Alto, and he was in heaven.
The World cup was held in the US in,I think,94.Big security concerns around here as Stanford hosted many match's.
In their wisdom, the local cops decided they needed to do security drills on public transportation.
I was leaving for Greece for vacation, and I had Ted(my friends name)look after some work for me while I was away.
I returned 3 weeks later, and Ted was dead.
He had been involved in the security drills, this one on a train. As a rookie reserve,he was playing the role of one of the bad guys. All the weapons of all the officers had been checked prior to the start of the drill.
Just one hitch. The officer in charge of checking all the weapons checked everyones chamber but his own.He had 1 round in it.
It ended up in Teds chest, and killed him instantly.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
His death was a direct result of his fixation on guns, which led to being a cop, which led to an orphan son and widowed young wife.

Tallcal,

Sorry about your friend. If this means anything, the chances of getting injured from a training session is greater than getting injured by a felon.

Also What does this have to do with Steve Irwin?

And the saying has it roots from Rome - but the more common said source is Matthew 26:51-52, I think the roman source is from somewhere around Ceasar's time.

My condolences on your friend. Is this "Live by the sword...", or is this "Guns don't kill people, people kill people?" In this case, someones negligence.

It is ironic that Irwin was done in by an animal known to be fairly docile. I once petted stingrays along with my then pre-teen children. Great Whites also live in those waters.

I have enjoyed Steve Irwin since he first came to TV.He was a facinating guy, who lived life to the fullest, and enlightend the world on crocks, snakes etc.
It's a lot different to pet sting rays in an enclosed pond or aquarium, then diving the reef off the Queensland coast.I last dove there 8 years ago(the outer reef not the inner reef). It's wild and wholly, and full of danger, with heavy tidal action.
The waters are full of extremely large rays, and we were told not to mess with them, that they can be very aggresive.
Whats Steve Irwin have to do with my friends death? In my opinion,an over zealous facination, and willingness,to put yourself in harms way.
I have heard all I can stand to hear about "people kill people, not guns".It's a load of rubbish(to use a Auzie term).
Sting rays don't kill people, people who get in their world and screw with them kill people.Simple conclution here,"live by the sword ,die by it".One mans sting ray is another mans "empty"revolver.
Both men were trained in their choice of lethal activites, and both died as a result of insisting on pushing the envelope.
I guess they both died doing what they loved, which is little consolation to their young children.

O.K., so your tired of guns don't kill people. To para-phrase Archie Bunker, would you feel better if they were pushed out of windows?

OK, the fact has been something that we have had to live with for centuries - even before guns were around.

The romans (yes again rome) there was a writer, Senaca the younger who said Quemadmoeum gladis nemeinum occidit, occidentis telum est/A sword is never a killer, it's a tool in the killer's hands around 57BC (Before Christ). Same with a gun, they don't jump out and kill anyone - it takes a person behind it to do so.

I completely understand where you are coming from but remember that it don't matter when you have an occupation that puts you in harms way all the time - guns, barbs, knives or what ever.

More people die from spider bites in Australia each year then are murdered by hand guns.Don't care about Roman history,or any other lessons on how "people"kill people.

Don't even need to push them star!Americans are flocking to my City to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. We need to put up more "NO DIVING"signs for all the sorry souls who just need to get the f*** outa here.I guess it's not quite as messy as blowing your brains out.Something of a romantic vision for those left behind.
I know it's depressing these days, but the fall elections are just around the corner, and there is a dim light of sanity creeping in,slowly.Lets hold our breath and pray for our beloved country, guns and all.
