Contractor Rate Negotiation Responsibilities

While running as a fleet owner's contractor, how do we deal with the aspects of haul rate negotiations? We want to run as well and as profitably as we can, obviously not only for ourselves but our fleet owner as well. From what I've been reading here in the forums, there seems to be quite a bit of number tossing and mincing for those that choose to move and not be parked.
For an O/O I can see the obvious dilemmas.
How do dispatchers typically deal with the contractor's contractor? Do they just figure they will offer a run at a given rate and the fleet owner's guy will grab and run, or does the dispatcher expect to negotiate with the contractor's crew as a financial pro tem?
Do most fleet owners expect rate negotiations as part of driver duty? We're new here and we're trying to soak up as much info as we can. Big Thanks.

Oky dokey, I guess from the lack of responses, my question either was a stupid one or I'm wondering about something I don't need to worry about.

Dispatchers deal with whoever is in the truck, but as far as your question goes, in the beginning I think the fleet owner needs to set guidelines for your decision making. As you gain experience and as you know what the fleet owner expects you you will make the decision and negotiate if necessay

Hey CM
Rich nailed it, dispatch doesn't see or care who is in the truck they see a computer with a pending load needing to be covered nothing more nothing less (if they did see somthing else it would be a avatar of a butt hole when they pulled up my truck...
Anonymity has it's advantages..

I wasn't clear on what the SOP was on this subject, I appreciate the info. Most O/O's I've spoken to so far have pretty much said they have a hands off approach as long as the truck hits a minimum performance percentage but none have touched on this. I'll be sure to ask when the time comes.Thanks.

Except in a rare instance, it should be up to the driver. If you are trusting them with a $100,000 piece of equipment, you better be able to let them make their own load decisions.
If not, probably have the wrong team.
