Considering Cargo Van Purchase

Not necessarily true - because they do have their own customer base and are not solely dependent on NLM and Ryder/Penske Logistics ......

Last trip I had there was back in late January, so it's not exactly "recent" experience ... but .... I was called within an hour after dropping in Laredo, to go down to Hildago the next morning and pick up a load coming back to San Antonio, later that day.

After I dropped that load (Thursday afternoon), I got called on a Friday while I was in San An, to pick up a load in Laredo on Sunday - it paid over 80 cpm (1621 loaded) and it took me back to "expeditefrtland" (Cleveland, OH) ... it was non-NLM.

Admittedly, there were not alot of expedite trucks down there at the time from any carrier, and only one other van/Sprinter from my carrier, and he was already booked on a load.

Thats what I mean..when there are no Express-1's down there the lesser carriers get loads....*LOL*

Sorry Randy...just had to poke....

Ok, 1st, ill let the grass grow under the van before ill take $.48 a mile to get out of here. I have been here 3 times and have never not gotten out of here and never spent more then 60 hours here. I will say 2 of the runs were within the state, but they still paid fine. As for moving on my own empty, if i move empty, I do it on my own dime EVERYTIME, I never take their DH pay to move. And if i am hauling frieght then I make the decison on what i will take..and it ain't $48 a mile....

As for no freight out of here, if thats true why would Bolt open a office down here to do "cross dock exchanges" with freight coming to their office from Mexico on Mexican owned trucks???? They must have figured it was a good idea or why would they do it?? I mean i am still learning this business i understand that, but to open, and spend the money to operate and staff an office to get freight in an area that is suppose to have no freight getting out wouldn't seem like a good business decision to me...

I will say this, I am not "T'd" off at Bolt, they can't pull freight out of their behinds, and they have to bid what they have to to get the freight, thats what they should do to stay in business. They also know that there are people that will not haul for some of those rates and there are some that will. It took dispatch 3 calls to get this load shipped, and it got shipped at the rate quoted. Now that being said, they could have got it loaded for LESS, he thought that dispatch said $.42 per mile and he had all ready excepted it. When we asked him if he took it at the $.48, he said " no $.42.....when the QC message said $.48, he said he really thought it was $.42.....

To further make the point, Last week i had a darn good week going by thursday..dispatch called and said they had a run that they wanted to bid, but it would only pay me $.68 a mile....i told them, since i had an exceptopnal week going, i'd do it, just don't make it a habit....now they didn't get that load, but the next call i got, another dispatcher brought that conversation up, think my comment wasn't talked about or noted on my file....you start taking those cheap rates and thats what your offers will be... I'll work with dispatch anytime i can, but don't mess with me when i don't mess with you.....I can count on 1 hand the loads i have turned down in the last 8 months with them, that $.48 cents was the cheapest rate i have had offered to me since i have been with them, and it surpassed the previous low by $.17

You can preach all that bolt bull crap you want and hope someone from bolt reads it and gives you an ataboy. just go ask them them how much their reducing their profit to pay you fairly,0,0,0,0. And then friday comes and they send you that QC message to use your spare time this weekend to check your vehicle over to be sure to be ready for service on monday. Bolt, give me a break. hauled more freight in the last week than I did in 2wks. at bolt. Boy, sometimes I just crack my self up.:D Oh yeah, don't forget when you go home and go out of service you get more calls of load offers than when you were on the road in service, even after you tell them three times you will call when you are ready to go back in service, that was the iceing on the cake for me.

all these load planners/dispatchers/recruiters they all want to keep their cushy jobs as much as we want to keep our trucks....but at crunch time just whom do you think is going to pay the piper...They will pinch us for every penny they can to save their jobs and try make the company stay in business...wouldn't you?
