I delivered at Ford this morning - Engine Plant 1, Brookpark (Cleveland, OH) I was whipped (having driven up from Laredo) .... and apparently went into the plant at the opposite end of where of the guy I actually needed to see was. First guy directed me to a lady that he thought handled receiving, turns out she no longer did that job ...... but she offered to run me over to the other end in her electric cart (ostensibly because my glasses didn't have side-shields) where the guy I needed to see was.
She diverted on the way to show me where they were setting up one of the lines for one of the two new engines they will be producing .... which was kinda neat (but mentioned kinda sadly that the casting plant would be closing) The guy she took me to took care of me immediately (while she waited to give me a ride back to my truck) - he stamped my paperwork and told me where to go, but said it might be a couple of minutes before he'd have someone there to unload me, as they were just starting the day (7 AM) and everyone was in a meeting.
The girl ran me back and by the time I drove over to "Dock B" and found the door there was a guy there waiting to unload me with a high-lo.
I mention all this because I've seen a number of comments on here about UAW workers with bad attitudes ..... I'm no fan of unions, and of the UAW in particular ..... but I have to say, I don't think that I have ever been treated badly by UAW workers at any one of the big 3 .... I can remember one occasion where the reception wasn't overly friendly, exactly (maybe because everybody seemed to be busy with whatever they were doing) .... but as best as I can recall offhand, for the most part, I've been treated professionally and taken care of within reasonable times - often very courteously, and with a good degree of friendliness .... point being people are individuals and there are good and bad wherever one goes.
Now, security guards are another matter (often the case with those folks that seem to be attracted to "police" type jobs) - I got there 4 hours early and parked in an empty employee parking area to try and get some rest - only to be awakened by some dikwad security guard repeatedly beating on the side of my truck (kinda figured he might prefer me answering his call fully clothed rather than in my skivies) ..... guy kicked me off the lot - and was pretty rude about it.
On the onehand I can understand why he would ask me to leave (perhaps the "bad" truckers have ruined for the rest of us) ..... on the other you would think it Ford might find it in their best interest to make it so that drivers would at least not mind coming there.
Just my experience, yours may well vary.
