Mr. Conyers, these selected quotes are from an article you wrote for The Black Scholar, Vol. 6, No. 2, Oct. 1974. You were 45 at the time and involved in the Nixon investigations…
Passages especially relevant to our present situation have been underscored.

From “Why Nixon Should Have Been Impeached.”

“If the system has worked, it has worked by accident and good fortune. It would be gratifying to conclude that the House, charged with the sole purpose of impeachment, exercised vigilance and acted on its own initiative. However, we would be deluding ourselves if we did not admit that this inquiry was forced on us by an accumulation of disclosures which, finally and after unnecessary delays, could no longer be ignored.

“Perhaps, ironically and certainly unintentionally, we have ourselves jeopardized the future of the impeachment process….Now, with our inquiry, future Congresses may recoil from ever again exercising this power. They may read the history of our work and conclude that impeachment can never again succeed unless another President demonstrates the same, almost uncanny ability to impeach himself.

“If this is our legacy, our future colleagues may well conclude that ours has been a pyrrhic victory, and that impeachment will never again justify the agony we have endured. It is imperative, therefore, that we speak to them clearly: impeachment is difficult and it is painful, but the courage to do what must be done is the price of remaining free.”

As your title suggests, Mr. Conyers, President Nixon was never actually impeached. He resigned before an impeachment vote could be taken by the full House. One theme implicit in your essay is that Nixon should not have been allowed to resign and then pardoned, without punishment. Indeed, that outcome gave future executives the sense that they too were above the law and that they too could act without impunity against the Constitution and against this democracy. Nixon escaped, and now far worse than Nixon is here.

You have detailed the crimes of the current executive in your indictment, published as Constitution in Crisis. Since then an additional “accumulation of disclosures” of wrongdoing by the president and vice-president have come forth which can “no longer be ignored,” to use your own words above.

Mr. Conyers, you were 45 when you wrote that very articulate essay, from which we have quoted only a small portion. What have you learned since you were 45 that prevents you from exercising your oath today to uphold and defend the Constitution? What has changed, except for the severity of the offenses? Certainly not your oath or the clear dictates of that Sacred Document.

Mr. Conyers, do you still believe that “the courage to do what must be done is the price of remaining free?”

Will you do what must be done? Will you hold this criminal White House accountable?

As a citizen of the state of Michigan, I want to know why are you so concern with what the president has done but not of your own constituents.

As Michigan has become the example of what a third world state could be like if the country decided to take over Somolia. While other states have their representatives fighting for them and attracting business and creating jobs, you are focused on the president and the allege issues he has caused which has nothing to do with the state, the situation we are in or creating jobs for the people who need the attention the most. Impeachment will not help Michigan or your constituents, Impeachment shows the people of your district what your priorities are.

Please Mr. Conyers, worry about Michigan and the 15000 jobs we lost due in the last two years by a democrat governor, not the president who is leaving office soon and has nothing to do with the state.

I guess the democrats will never get over Clinton's impeachment, in spite of the fact that he deserved it and should have been removed from office. The only thing that saved him was the prospect of a President Gore. It just amazes me that these whining, bitter liberals continue to be obsessed with the idea of impeachment as a matter of payback. I have a Constitutional lawyer friend who was jumping up and down so happy about the "GIVE the throat cutters/ the same protection as all the Americans past and present WHO FOUGHT for FREEDOM ACT", in the supreme court decision this past week. BUSH LOST!! YEAH!! I SAID AMERICA LOST!! BUSH is leaving office! They cannot get over BUSH!! THEIR war- that's first, America second! GO CHENEY!

This site is full of people that have nothing better to do than to try to pick apart books, sites, and any type of documented proof which is written by credible people with degrees on the subject matter. If these individuals think they have so much information against the subject matter why are you driving a truck and why are you on this site 24/7? Shouldn't you be writing a book or something? The other two books are Mien Kampf and Bolshevism from Moses to Lenin: Dialogues Between Hitler and Me by Eckart – all are relevant to your threads and all of them should be part of your understanding what some of this means. If you want an educated reason why, read the books and then ask questions, don’t assume that you know things because you seen them on Youtube or get a spam email or even find it in a racist/hated filled website. But I know you don’t have the capacity to think for yourself, just look at your posts – rambling without substance at the same time calling people pathetic and telling them they are childish at the same time saying the same thing over in three or four threads – that is the saddest thing, no defense at all.

Read the post again, more slowly this time. Then answer the basic question that was asked - "what would qualify Cheney for impeachment?". By the way, I was in the Army from 1969 to 1975 and have been there, done that. I suppose you've heard of a place called Viet Nam. The mindset is not necessarily pro war - it's PRO VICTORY!

Just because some left-wing radical brings up some impeachment articles, does that make them valid? Evidently not, based on the fact that nobody in Washington took them seriously. The Haliburton contracts - how do you know he made any money on these? This is what's called a false premise, and you seem to come up with a lot of these.

There's a difference between opinions and statements of fact. Everyone here is entitled to their opinions, and we should all recognize them as such. However, when you make a statement of fact such as the implication above that VP Cheney has garnered ill-gotten gains while holding the office of Vice President, you should offer some credible sourcing; and I don't mean some posting from moveon.org or some other wacko blog. This might lend a little more "gravitas" to some of your posts that are otherwise a bit incoherent.

I am wondering why isn't Kuncinich being brought up on charges he violated his oath of office by not voting for enforcement of the laws and the constitution that would deport people who invade our country?

Why isn't he being censured for his refusal to defend the country by investigating the crime and illegal activities of the people who cross the border as invaders?

I think that he reflects the people of his district 100% and they hate the president and the administration.
