Have one more hurdle to cross before I hit the road  I have to take a CDL road test * un-expected * and wondering what I should be prepared for. I know I will have to do a road test and a pre-trip but is there anything else? Im sure registration, insurance card, chock blocks is required. I will be taking the Class C CDL test. I was planning on renting a car/truck to take the test in.

Went and passed my Hazmat and thought I had it whoped and I could hit the road until the guy told me I had to take a road test !! Oh well I have 17 more days to go before the test. Wish I could hurry and hit the road looking forward to it.

gotta go

 The fact that you have to take a road test was a surprise?? Since you are going for a class C can't you take that in your personal vehicle? Not to sound snotty, but are you planning to become an expediter? Have you researched the industry as well as you checked out the licensing requirements?
Good luck, hopefully you'll find one of the good fleet owners to drive for as you learn and earn.

Yes I have read alot on expediting but not on licensing so I was assuming I could take my hazmat and I could hit the road and according to the recruiter it was just that easy to get hired lol. Didnt know any better I guess.

Yes I can take it in my personal vehicle (any vehicle you will be driving for your license class ) according to the DMV. I cant take my personal vehicle its in need of repair due to a bad wheel bearing and it sounds horrible and wont be fixed in time. So I was just gonna get a rental.

I have luckly found a good fleet owner ( or seems to be ) and has trusted me completely sense day one.

CDL C road test is about the same as a road test in a car. Make sure you know to pump the brakes 3 times and then hold on the third pump to test the brakes, as that's one they usually ask you to do first thing. You'll be pretending you're carrying HAZMAT, so come to a full stop with your 4-ways on at the pretend RR tracks. A Class C is nothing more than a regular Operator's license with HAZMAT added, so pay close attention to the rules of the road when hauling HAZMAT, since that's what they'll concentrate on.

Know the distances for emergency triangles as they'll often have you pull off to the side of the road for a pretend breakdown (use 4-ways there, too). Let him see you glancing at the mirrors very briefly, but often, to show you are aware of your surroundings at all times. Uhm, don't speed, use the turn signal when turning and changing lanes. When you go under the overpass, take note of the bridge height and surprise him when he asks you what the clearance of the overpass was. Most van drivers never notice, and it won't fail you if you don't, but it'll be a nice surprise for him if you do.

Other than that, it's just yer basic driving.
