Cat Valve Lash Setting

OK, question is, can anyone tell me the Valve Lash gap setting for a 2007 pre-emmission Cat C9 ACCERT on a hwy use engine in my 2007 FL M2106? I've been looking online to no avail short of buying a complete service manual. I'm big on DYI, how hard can it be? Any help much appreciated.

And....has anyone, with any st trk engine make/model, shown any improvement in MPG after adjusting valves? I read the ACCERT Cat valves s/b adjusted at 60,000 miles while the engine is cold. I'm sitting on 137k now and certain the procedure has never been done. Anybody that can shed some light on the subject is welcome to chime in.

My economy runs 9.75mpg @ 55mph, 8.75 @ 65mph and 8.25 @ 70mph, loaded or not. This with an Allison 6 speed, 4:30 gears, single rr axle and air tabs. Trk weighs 21,400 empty, 96" AA sleeper, 22 ft box, no APU or accesorial generator.

I also wonder if possible to change the shift point in the Allison for 6th gear to come in at 62mph instead of 65?. I often find myself running upto 65mph for the 6th gear shift then backing down to 62 or so where it will hang in 6th untill the next hill. This will better keep the rpm's in the C9's sweet spot of 1350-1400 rpm.

Long winded i know. Best of luck to everyone in expeditersonline.com!!!

If it's an ACERT let CAT do it, trust me. It shouldn't cost more than 300 bucks to get it done. I've done an ACERT engine and it if you don't get it perfect (and I didn't) it runs like a bag of dirt. ACERT engines are a different kettle of fish under the valve covers!!

Never have done much with diesels except the easy mntnce stuff. It is an ACERT according to the engine label so i will take your word for it being a different kettle of fish. A little different then from my old GM hotrod days huh?? Sounds like i'd better leave it to the experts, that way if it runs like a bag of dirt when done, the wifey will have some one to blame besides me :)

Great forum and information, thanks for your help guys. Here's to a prosperous last half of '08!!

I would agree to have Cat perform that service.
You change in gears can be done at the same time unless there is a warranty concern. On that part you can have Allison make any transmission adjustments.
