An altercation in a Detroit branch of Burger King has led to a member of staff striking a 67-year-old customer.

The man, who reportedly had been causing a disturbance at the restaurant, fell and later died.

The punch may have caused him to choke on his dentures, local TV station WJBK-TV reported.

An autopsy to establish the cause of death is expected to take place on Friday. Officials say the employee could face criminal charges.

Sgt Eren Stephens, of the City of Detroit Police Department, told reporters: "A verbal argument occurred. It escalated into a physical altercation."

Burger King spokeswoman Denise Wilson said that company officials were aware of the incident, and that the franchise owner was co-operating with police.

He died of the hit on the head. They proicessed him through at warp speed - which is really really unusual considered this is a coroner's office that has a 3 week backlog, loses bodies all the time and has some 300 unclaimed bodies in the freezer.

The odd thing about this, is this is really a cultural thing, a lot of explaining of what it is all about can't be done in polite company or in the open.

The former owner of that franchise was one of the best owners you could find in the country, he took his new employees to lunch and had them order food at other places to see what it was like as a customer which gave the employee an understanding about quality of service. You never had an issue at his places but alas BK ran him out of his contract because of an issue.
