whats the best place to buy a sprinter???? price wise...its time for me to start looking...also what lengths do you all use?? it seams that if i go with a larger wheel base like 158 inches that would be more storage for my personal belongings, height is also a consideration ive seen about 8 configurations for the dodge alone .. any input is appreciated thanks brian

If I were doing a Sprinter it would be the high roof 158" wheelbase 3500 series one ton unit. It would have to have the wheelwells modified to take skids but it would give the greatest load capacity.

I would be more likely to do an Aerocell van because it is larger than the Sprinter so I can have more cargo and sleeper room. There are some threads running on that and you can also look at www.unicell.com for more info. Good luck.

I agree on the wheel wells.
They need to modify them in order to get a skid between them.

Ford's dually has a gvw of 11,500 lbs.. Chevy and GMC have a 10,000 lbs. gvw model and a 12,000lbs. gvw model.

The dual wheel 3500 Sprinter is 9990 GVW. The E450 with 17' Aerocell body is 14050 GVW so it has to log but it has 16'8" behind the seats inside cargo/sleeper space. I believe most companies require 8'6" of cargo space for a van so that would leave 8'2" for sleeper in the Aerocell. It's also wide enough for 2 skids side by side if they are turned 90 degrees so it could be laid out with 4 skid spots on the floor and over 7 feet of sleeper ahead of a bulkhead. Not a bad tradeoff for logging, at least to me.

If you have decided you have to have a Sprinter start talking to every Sprinter driver you can. In the past year I have had four drivers try to sell me their Sprinters. They ranged from 80,000 miles to 134,000 and were priced real cheap compared to new. But remember the reason they were wanting to sell is because of all the repairs and downtime they had. Your decision.
