Hi, just picked up new extended Sprinter. Dealer is offering extended bumbper to bumper warranty until 175K miles, zero duductable.

The cost is approx $3,700

Does it worth the cost? We will be putting about 150K per year.

If it's anything like Toyota you can get it from an online dealer for about half that. It's a gamble. For a few it is a huge blessing. For the vast majority it is a BIG expense with a SMALL return.

150K a year? Hope most of that is loaded miles! That's alot of miles in a year IMHO!

I just bought a 2017 Sprinter and got the 175K extended warranty, but I don't put that much miles on it in a year.

To answer your question though, yes buy the extended warranty either from the dealer or like LDB said through online. I bought mine through the dealer.

What’s the base warranty ?
Can you bank that money and have it available for repairs in the future ?
Can you roll that warranty into purchase price ?
If so, the interest rate may factor into my decision.

Base warranty is 3 year/36K. I just put that and Gap ins in with the van.

Power train & emissions systems (unless changed recently) are 100,000 mi.
GEO would be the one to speak specifically on this. Course he is a fan of extended warranty too.

Can't figure out how to copy and put on here. Here's where you can look and call about the warranty.

Above that is the Warranty and Maintenance website from MB

Ah, just out what curiosity .. what carrier are you signed on with?

I'll second Dollar$ thought .. 150K is a snot load of miles per yr.

Oh, I personally would pass on the extended warranty ....

Since power train and emissions carry a 100,000 mile warranty, you’re only getting 75,000 miles extra coverage on those.
I also would pass.

I’ve only dealt with class 8 trucks, but when comparing used, all things being equal, I have a value per year difference and a value per mile difference.
On a van I would recommend that if you couldn’t throw a dime per mile, every mile, onto the payoff I would say this isn’t something you should get into.
$43,000 van. Pay it off by 430,000 miles.
$50,000 van . Pay it off by 500,000 miles.
Personally, that’d be too slow for my comfort.
This is if I were advising a friend.

I won’t be driving the van; I’m a CPA; the friend of mine has a fleet of about 10 vans; they seems busy - 3,000-5,000 miles per week, per van. He will be running the operation for me. I’ll will just pay $100 weekly fixed fee per van. Hopefully it will work out.

3 to 5,thousand miles per week ?
How long do you expect these vans to last ?
Does your friend tend to exaggerate?
Must be an unusual operation.

I’m hoping they will last 3 years/500K Miles. The residual is 6-8k at the end; it’s probaly more effective to ship them to Africa at that point or to Middle East. They worth more overthere than in US.

Their avarage loaded rate is below $1.

I still would get the warranty. Someone else is driving that van, not him. Hey I could be wrong or right. The only to find out is to keep us posted!

I suggest the warranty.
For 2 reasons.
1) The new evidence that has surfaced that he will not be driving it himself.
2) He’s accountant. With money to burn.

Why else would he get in this investment ?
At least he was told the loaded rate is below $1 per mile.

Is $3,700 price good for 175K warranty or should I try to get better? Thx!

I’m surprised that DollarSign didn’t say what he paid.

I’m going to assume you do this guy’s books.
So you know what you’re getting into.
That gives you a big advantage.

There’s typically not much ROI in this segment.
Some of that may be because of numbers games.
If you know the real numbers, it may be pretty good for you.
Good Luck.
