US DIESEL PRICES

how the frig do they make sense.. like .70 cents more a gallon per then gasoline.. even premium. it makes no sense. its less refined than gasoline. it should not be so much more. compareively in canada its not. after the exchange rate the diesel is barely cheaper than in canada.

it seems like a conspiracy against diesel operators because most are commercial i always get my diesel at exxon/mobil there are cheaper places and sometimes cash is cheaper but i get it with the fleetcard gets taken off cheque..

Basic laws of supply and demand set the base price, then government taxes add to the price.

Supply and demand and high taxes much more than gas I'm sure + the real markup on fuel at truck stops take today for instance I paid 3.08 per gal for diesel at a wawa in paulsboro nj! Across the street at the ta it was 3.81 per gallon... I took on 87 gallons that saved me mucho money and I'll refill on my way back to my delivery if I can

Actually, diesel is so much more refined than gas is now....Anyone remember back in the day when diesel fuel was like 2,000 ppm sulfur? And it was gray and slimy back than? And now? 15ppm? And clear to a point?

Who mentioned markup is the closest to the truth. Why do you think that the big companies like Landstar and Mercer and others get 45cents or more discount on every gallon of diesel they buy? I am pretty sure that those truckstops don't loose money selling it at that discounted price. But the small people have to pay the inflated price.
But I am in a sprinter and I rarely fuel at truckstops. Walmart and kroger and racetrac and quicktrip and whatever is the cheapest, there I fuel.

Good fuel economy. What is your average cruise KMPH/MPH? What % highway v city miles. What is your city KMPL/MPG How are the tires holding up? Compare the comfort of the ride from your previous one. As configured what is your capacity in weight and dimension?

The markup on gasoline is not much, usually a nickel or less, but the markup on diesel is significant. It's not 45 cents though, although it can be at certain times of the year (usually in the Spring). Profit margins on diesel is about 20-25 cents a gallon. (ULSD adds about 10 cents a gallon to the cost of diesel, BTW).

If you're with a large carrier that gets deep discounts on diesel, it's generally a good idea to take advantage of that. But it depends on how you pay for it and what state you buy it in. States with higher diesel taxes tend to have the better deep discounts. So you may get a 35 cent discount in one state but only a 3 cent discount in another. And if you're in a van and it costs $2.50 (or whatever) per Comdata fuel transaction, the discount might not be enough to cover the Comdata fees.

It isn't a factor for vans but for most straight trucks and all tractors the effect of IFTA should be factored in to fuel purchases as well.

Turtle is correct. .45 a gallon discount is the highest I have seen, and it varies by state, season, and fuel prices. When the pump price is higher, the discounts are higher also.

Keep in mind when you buy Canadian diesel....you are getting good quality fuel...not this dirty crap down here..It used to be called actually "dirty diesel" ......50 cetane and better fuel mileage compared to this water here lucky if it is even 40 cetane...so bad we have to add a booster to it....so taking that into consideration you really think it is that bad?....AND you should be getting the GST refunded as a business???.

and its a CAN Gallon at that!! 3.8 L = 1 America gal as to 4.5 L = 1 Can Gallon

3.81 vs 3.08 is a huge spread for the difference of .73 a gallon I'd have to say there is a huge markup that free shower just cost you about 60.00 or more compared to not taking one this morning, I can go an extra day if I need too! For that savings

I average cruise at 110km/k so around 65mphit is mostly highway miles I do. when I was coming back empty from Miami to charlotte I got as good as 27.5mpg.. after I got into Pennsylvania the average dropped below 25. because of all the mountains. up to about 1200lb I don't see much a difference from empty but fully loaded over 2500 there is a bit of a difference. The full size transit compared to the little transit is not even a comparison. what good is a one skid gasser van that cant last past 400k I had to ditch that one after 2 years my capacity in weight is 3360 lb that includes my fat 220 lb *** and some tools so 3000 really. I fit 11 feet length 52 inch wide and 61 height. its a great van no problems.. so far.. I know ive read some people had problems but not me, knock on wood it is hit and miss I guess lets hope that all the **** doesn't come after 100,000km when my warranty is done.. which will be soon. haha
