is expediting only use of cargo vans?

wanting to be a part time driver in someone else's vehicle really narrows your choices. picture renting a house but only paying your rent part time. have you thought about delivering rv's? that is a much more leisurely industry, as is reflected in the pay. eb

    A newbie inquires

Thanks, Turtle. Couple other things. Many of the companies that you want to eventually end up at have waiting lists or require expediting experience. During that time of gaining experience, it really can't hurt to start with a non-sprinter-type van. More emphasis should be placed on cash...

    husband/wife team (no experience)

Ditto on what MissKat suggested. I was thinking you could replicate a smaller interior by renting a Sprinter style rv, but then you would miss out on the restrictions of where you could take the larger rv. Forcing yourself to get to the expo on short notice can simulate getting unstranded. Be...

new to ExpOnline, weighing options, keeping myself informed/educated

There also might be smaller local operations who will give you the chance to "refresh" your semi credentials before moving out to the open road. And thanks for the follow up. Too many people ask a question, members take the time to put together some advice, and the op is never heard from again. eb

OMG, we had an ex-Con in my class. He was the entire disruption to the class. Finally, someone asked him why he even bothered coming to orientation if things sounded so bad, and then we found out he was an ex-Con. eb

...and read. Consider it an exercise in patience. Since you first posted I've only had one 500 mile load. The rest of the time I've been sitting. If you can't spend that much time researching a new career, would you have the patience to sit that long? That you are still here after four days is...

Welcome, BigDogg. Having the extra lead time can be an advantage for you. Many carriers may not be hiring now anyway. Looking to bring a cargo van on with a carrier.

I would set my expectations on a range of. 85-.95 per mile (or lower). The people who get higher rates think its normal to get the 1.00 rate, but that isn't the usual case after the typical carrier has finished the shell game called Pay. eb
