    solo driver

I would suggest you ask your question in the recruiter section. Add where you live and describe your equipment.

    single drivers

Schneider has that option , not sure but maybe England too.

    Im taking over!

As a driver I want safe, reliable equipment. Sitting 2 or 3 times a month waiting on repairs won't work. Creature comforts for living on the road. Is the equipment set up to make us money? You need to get good driver references to have any chance of success. Bad drivers tearing up your...

    Non CDL Straight Truck Question?

The way I'm reading the OP is, he found a 19,000 GVWR straight truck that can carry 7000 - 9000 lbs of freight with a team driving it. Before he buys this vehicle he wants to know if there is going to be freight available for this type of unit since he can't carry 13,000 lbs. My knowledge from...

    Your First Experiences

If I had a scale ticket that said I was over gross I would get the carrier involved. I would just let everyone know that I would not be delivering that load. I took a load back 3 times to be reworked. Ended up dropping the trailer there.

    Class B, C, D

What I'm trying to figure out is if I can clear $40,000 - 45,000 a year expediting as a solo O/O. I only mentioned logs as possibly being restrictive to the financial operation of a solo driver business if I have a loading dock eating away at my 14 hour clock. I have a class A CDL with Hazmat...

    Class B, C, D

There are so many variables in this business it is almost impossible to make a rational decision. I'm trying to research this as a possibility in the future. I could buy a CV easy enough but I don't think I would be happy living out of it. Next option for me is under 26000 but then I have to log...

    Class B, C, D

Seems like the equipment rate depends on the carrier. What class are Sprinters in? I see a lot of comments about Sprinter rates. Thank you for the replies.

    Class B, C, D

I thought I had this figured out but then I confused myself again. As long as you stay within the GVWR of your vehicle, B carries 2 pallets, C carries 3 and D carries 4 plus (depending on box size). So what class does a Penske cube van fall into? And what class does 25,990 fall into?

    Life Changing Decision

I'm just a wannabe that has also been doing research. Maybe look at it this way and let the more experienced make corrections to my thinking. I read somewhere in here that a straight truck ran 61,000 in a year. I think running team would add 25,000. According to this site deisel average is now...

Looking to bring a cargo van on with a carrier.

Most carriers, if not all, require a scale ticket (empty weight) before you sign on. They inspect your vehicle and check the door sticker before you sign the lease. They need to know what type of equipment to dispatch.

    Any Suggestions

What class license do you have? Is your license clean? Would you pass a background check and drug screen? Broken employment? Carriers can dig deep.

No experience or unit. How do I get started?

Let him sleep in the car for a couple of weeks. When he gets in a bare bones van he will think he hit the lottery.

No experience or unit. How do I get started?

Take your trip then decide. Why waste time applying for jobs you may not want. When someone advertises for a job they are trying to find a driver that is committed to making money for both driver and owner.

Reciently unemployed, have references, wanting a change

And don't forget that there are expenses involved with living on the road. Food, motel, laundry, entertainment. All that comes out of your "take home" pay.

Who should you use to send Hazmat?

It is true that all hazmat materials do not require placards. I was taught that if the BOL has any item flagged as hazardous material you need a hazmat endorsement to haul it regardless of quanity or placards.

Who should you use to send Hazmat?

Is it required to have a fixed bulkhead separating driver from cargo when hauling hazmat?

Who should you use to send Hazmat?

I drove T/T for a major carrier that required hazmat for all drivers. They did not haul explosives or radiation material. In 3 1/2 years I only hauled 8 or 9 loads. Shipper is required to supply the correct information and placards. Driver needs to check everything before signing. Driver is...

Who should you use to send Hazmat?

To protect yourself make a copy of the driver's license of the person signing the BOL and make sure they have a hazmat endorsement. I was sent once to pick up a load that turned out to be hazmat and I refused because I didn't have the endorsement. Company wanted me to "just bring it to the yard."

What is the negative side of expediting?

I think vanners are an amazing bunch capable of living on the road weeks at a time in such cramped quarters. I know I could never do it. I need a bit more room to relax while I wait.
