I have to wonder if the newer Eatons that come filled with synthetic lube just don't loosen up like they used to?

re: the stiff Eaton tranny - My understanding is that it can take 100k+ miles to "loosen them up". Was this your first "new" Eaton? My 1995 shifts like melted butter but it did have almost a million miles on it when I got it <grin>.

Thanks for the link! I didn't see any recent posts there about moving around trailers but I posted something about what I was looking for and we'll see what turns up :) . The CDL school I went to a couple years back used to pick up some storage trailer moving work to give the instructors a...

The dt/ht530 are no longer made - replaced with the dt/ht570. These bigger engines are supposed to be based upon the dt466 design and I haven't heard of any problems with them? About a year ago I was trying to order up a "Baby 8" tractor and the international salesman told me that the smaller...

    Certified Welder?

You really don't want to weld to the frame if at all possible - it destroys the heat treating. You also don't want to drill into the top or bottom flange - but it is OK to drill the side for bolts.

Different states allow different axle weights. In CT I can scale 70.4 with a "regular" trailer (12k + 22.4k + 36K). Most of the Northeast is similar. South to MD is OK but you have to "sneak" through DE <grin>. You may see states listed as 20k single axle limit BUT they often have a higher limit...

    Would like to run regional

Hi! I'm presently leased on to a local warehousing/delivery service and am looking for options. My truck is a mechanically restored 1995 FLD120 single axle small sleeper that was being run by the previous owner as a "Big Shot" towing a three car trailer with another on the headrack (since...

    Money Maker?

A tractor pulling a short trailer will get less MPG than a straight truck! The "gap" is a real wind catcher.

    refrigerator questions

My little Engel freezer/fridge will keep my soda cans ice cold all weekend with the engine off. Even those cheap thermoelectric coolers should run overnite OK on 12v - they only draw about 40 amp/hours in a ten hour period. I have 4 group 31 deep cycle batteries (Interstate ECL), about 200...

    Centramatics

    >Has anyone else noticed the noise from the centramatics at >slow speeds? Yah, sounds like an air leak or one of them old hula hoops with the "shoop" beads in it ;) . Mine gets quiet at 25 or so.

    non cdl truck?

    >YOU DO NOT NEED A LOG BOOK IF YOU DRIVE WITHIN A 150 AIR >MILES OF WHERE YOU STARTED, That may be true in certain states - but the DOT regulation is 100 air miles (115 "normal" miles) and not more than 12 hours from starting work at your "terminal" to going off duty at that same terminal. I...
