Honestly I dont know why CargoMax used the 17.5 on the rear unless it allowed them to keep a smaller tire and still get the load rating. As mentioned above, Michelin builds a 16" tire with the same load rating...but that 285/70 is a lot of tire.

Look at my first comment. I never looked into the availability of wide based tires and rims for the Sprinter. Apparently someone did though...according to LDB. Im saying that if they are available and the weight rating is there...that would be a great modification the 3500 Sprinter. Possibly...

There sure are a lot illegal 18 wheelers out there if thats the case. As long as that wide based tire and wheel are rated to carry the weight....should be the same.

If the gvwr is 10,001 lbs or more and you travel across the state line, yes you'll need dot numbers, logbooks and you'll be expected to stop at the scale houses. There may be other considerations also, but Im pretty sure of the above. There a ton of discussions on this topic. Using the search...

The measurement the youngguns is asking for can vary depending on the model of truck. With freightliners you can tell by the number that is generally listed with the truck specs. FL112 has 112" BBC dimension. BBC= Bumper to Back of Cab. Same as FL120 has 120" BBC (exactly as Moot described)...
