    van question

In general, true, especially with pickup trucks. How many high mileage, expediter driven E-350s has Mr. Parker sold? I don't believe two identical E-350s, with 500,000 miles, that the diesel will sell for $4000 (initial cost of diesel) more than the gasser. So much for return on investment...

    van question

I wasn't comparing cargo vans to Sprinters. You mentioned comparing an E-350 gasser to an E-350 diesel. Let's forget about Sprinters for awhile. Better fuel mileage I will grant you, but how much better? 3 to 4 MPGs? My cost for gas for this year, through the end of October is .21/mile and...

    van question

Why? Initial cost is more. Curb weight is significantly more than a gasser, which is important in our line of work. Fuel cost per gallon is generally more than gas, although a diesel will get better fuel mileage. Factor in fuel additives, call it a wash or slightly favor the gasser...

Even Carriers are having a hard time filling jobs.

It all depends on the carrier and its business plan. Compare Load One to Panther. Two different companies. Two different business plans. Which one do you think has a higher turnover rate and why? Some truckload carriers have a turnover rate approaching 150%, whereas less than truckload...

Every Expediter Needs To Experience This..

I have taken the Badger from Ludington, MI to Manitowoc, WI empty. Sorry, no pictures. I also did a round trip loaded from Marion, IL to Marion, KY on a small ferry across the Ohio River. . . . This was on I-29 just south of Pembina, no ferry involved!

Even Carriers are having a hard time filling jobs.

Excellent post John! I agree with everything you said, except the above. I do agree that there is a driver shortage. There has always been a driver shortage, well at least since I started in the trucking industry. But it is a contrived shortage, similar to gasoline shortages.

    Where Is The Outrage?

Jody Lynmarvin Patzner Jr. was delivering a plate of lasagna three blocks down the street to a needy neighbor Monday evening just after 8:30 p.m. when he was gunned down in the 3500 block of Fremont Ave. N. He was shot to death after three boys demanded Patzner hand over his bike. A witness...

End of an era? S.S. Badger

I took the Badger from Ludington to Manitowoc in 2001 or 2002. Back then I think if was $85. It was a Friday morning. I had to be home in Minneapolis Saturday for a wedding. I delivered somewhere just east of Ludington, I was tired and needed to sleep. If I slept there, I would end up going...

I haven't done a Nissan load in a few years. As auto plants go, Nissan in Smyrna was an easy place to deliver to but way to many cargo vans waiting for loads out of Nashville.

Did the UN observers uncover this problem? Oh wait, they are here looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, not technical difficulties.
