Hostess Brands closes 3 plants and laysoff 600+ workers

Think I have had the swiss rolls, but it was some time ago. As for a Hostess buyer, it appears currently they don't have one.

We need to capture what we currently have available. You currently have several hundred years of natural gas alone. China prospers because we are dumb enough to borrow 40 cents on the dollar to try and compete with them. They are laughing thier behinds off when they see the results of Solyndra...

Hostess Brands closes 3 plants and laysoff 600+ workers

It has been a long time since I had a twinkie or a Ho-Ho. With regards to executive pay, it looks like they were trying to hold some back for themselves as they start the liquidation process and close. At some point it looks like they all will all be looking somewhere for work. Some of it...

    Papa Johns Pizza cutting hours

That is what it comes down to really. Whether it is Papa Johns, Hostess, or Pizza Hut. Just pick your poison. They either raise prices, layoff people, turn to just part-timers or close. And...it isn't just Obamacare. That is a part of many new and burdensome regulations that have a long lasting...

    Papa Johns Pizza cutting hours

I am saying the many don't understand or have exposure to how different businesses operate. They assume the corner beauty shop is raking it in like Microsoft.

Hostess Brands closes 3 plants and laysoff 600+ workers

Very sad. But...this is the stupidity some operate under. The 600 are just the first wave. Interesting article as to what is transpiring. Hostess Closing Bakeries as Workers Won

    $1.20 a mile ?

Not all. Just the ones associated with a run and must have receipts.

    $1.20 a mile ?

That is true. All the costs have to be looked at. Panther pays tolls which can be a big number but some don't. All kinds of variables outside of just the rate.

Not sure they would think of it in quite those terms. ;)

I would be in favor of that only for the reason that people would be more engaged as to what they are getting for the costs. Right now, many are just clueless. "Someone else is paying so no need to pay attention".

    $1.20 a mile ?

Probably a few things to add. If using the 1.30 plus FSC example, you are right in that fuel discounts and the like have to be factored. If using Panther, have to remember that deadhead is paid and empty moves all factor with the overall rate.

    Papa Johns Pizza cutting hours

I don't think Pappa Johns will be closing any time soon. May lose some franchises so it is hard to tell. Many will just go to part-timers/layoffs in the cases where they are over 50 employees. As mentioned, Darden already started and many are following. Won't be the end of the world, but likely...

And now the positive side of Walmart that expediters and the trucking industry benefit. Everything from parking, food,to everything a fraction of the cost at a truck stop. How many buy say a gallon of oil from a local vendor or truck stop to help them. Not many of course. Going on a grander...

    Papa Johns Pizza cutting hours

Walmart is a interesting story related to this topic. Because of how they operate, they forced most of their competitors to adapt the cost slashing mentality or basically be ran out of business. Look at small towns where Walmart came in. It is there you will see the end result. It put many small...

    Papa Johns Pizza cutting hours

Not all, but there are many franshise operators that have more than one location that gets them past the 50 employee mark. This will also slow job creation because there is no reason to expand just to give it away. McDonalds currently has a exemption but I can't remember for how long. I also...

    Papa Johns Pizza cutting hours

That is the part many people don't get. They see big corporations and think they have all this ability to pay the healthcare. Some do, but many whether fast food, hotel industry, auto repair places and the list goes on are FRANCHISES. Most don't carry a balance sheet to support those kinds of...
